Windows 7 sharing problems

Trying to set-up Win 7 for Sage install.
Already have two other XP machines and two Win 7 machines.

For some reason, the new Win 7 machine can't be accessed by my other machines, other than the "startup" public share.

If I share out drives, as I've done thousands of times, I just get the old "access denied" headache.

The new, Win 7, HTPC machine has an admin name, but NO password, as I want the machine to boot right up, like I did with XP MCE.

The "crack" team at the Microsoft store said "yeah, that's happening to me too...have you seen Windows Phone?"

Anyone else have networking sharing troubles with Windows 7?
I can access all my other machines and shares FROM the new box, just can't get into it.

I'll be watching this as I've had and still have the same problems. However, I do have both a username and password. I do have it setup though to boot automatically essentially bypassing the username and password.

But, I have the same problems... I can access all my other computers (XP machines and one Win98 computer ) from my Windows 7 machine but am limited to what I can look at on my Windows 7 machine from other computers. I've tried all kinds of stuff and nothing seems to work so I'll be watching this one too. Luckily for me though, my Windows 7 machine is my main computer so I use that computer to access and copy stuff to my other computers so I don't really have a "need" to get into my Windows 7 machine from the other computers. Well, I take that back, I'm probably spending about $10 to $15 a month extra in electricity because I have a computer running 24/7, which I can access, because I can't access my main Windows 7 computer. LOL

A couple of things to check:

Open the Network and Sharing Center (right click the network icon in system tray) and be sure your network listed under 'View your active networks' section is set as a 'Home network'. If it is listed as a 'Public network', click on 'Public network' and change it to 'Home network'.

Then you have to choose whether you want your shares locked down and accessed by authenticated users only or unlocked and wide open for everyone on the network to see. At the top left area of the Network and Sharing Center there is a link 'Change advanced sharing settings'. In there you can expand down the 'Home or Work' settings and scroll down to find the 'Password protected sharing' setting. To open up the shares to everybody on the network without requiring any kind of user authentication, turn off the password protected sharing. To limit share access to only the users on your network, turn on password protected sharing. If turned on, you will need to write down all of the user names and passwords in use on your XP machines and create the same user names and passwords on the Windows 7 machine to allow those XP users to access the shares. I could be wrong, but I believe if any user names on the XP machines don't have passwords, you'll have to create passwords for them on the XP machines so that both the XP and Windows 7 user accounts each have the same password.

If there is still a sharing problem, then you might have to dig around in the shared directory properties to ensure the permissions are set properly.

I know this is for vista, but it works in windows 7...pretty much what Jason is saying.

I tend to name my computers of what they are

HTPCServer, Client, GamingRig, etc so I ensure they are on the list in step 8 also making sure they are on same workgroup.

Selecting all didn't work for me back in windows 7 beta and had to select each on individually on each machine. I did submit a bug report to Microsoft
