So, what's my problem with playback
I loaded the placeshifter client on a couple of laptops. Ones a dual core 4gb ram, the other a single core.
Now when I playback an HD recording it's all jumpy and just doesn't play right. I did load direct 11, not sure if it's need but still the same problem. Also, the Mbs indicator show nothing. Now this is connect over a gigabit connection. so what am I doing wrong. I read the manual and have been reading some post, but can't find an answer. I'm running this on an XP system if that matters. Thanks

What kind of HD recording? mpeg2 or h264? Placeshifter's backend can't cope with HDPVR recordings being played back without transcoding.
If you are playing over a Gb network, odds are you aren't transcoding which is why the bitrate indicator isn't changing. There's no transcoding so you are getting full bitrate playback. You can manually set the transcoding options for that connectoin and see if that makes things better. |

Placeshifter has a "little" better time playing back 720p files from the HD-PVR, but not much.
Forget about 1080p - and that's a shame, as Placeshifter should be renamed to "Placeshifter: when recorded in SD" It's why I still have an OLD PVR-150 SD card in my system: if I know I am going to be away and want to watch via Placeshifter, it had better be a SD source or recording. Is this just a Sage problem, or is this kind of format (h.264) and bandwidth beyond Sage's core capabilties? |

I can playback my 1080p h264 encoded MKV's just fine in full resolution and skipping forward/backward working just fine. My guess here is that it has to do with the encoding settings of the HDPVR. It's definately not a bandwidth problem or an h.264 problem. I have no way to prove or disprove any of this, just anecdotal evidence. I hope the devs give placeshifter some luv now that V7 has gone gold, but I'm not holding my breath. I bet they need some (well deserved!) R&R |
