Please help with playback problem
hey guys,
Upgraded to newest beta in hopes of resolving my playback issuue. I've been running SAge for some time and all of a sudden I am having playback issues. It affects both SD and HD, almost feels java related. Java version is 1.6.0.11 Someone please look over this debug log and tell me if you see the issue. |

Might just be a firewall problem....there's some connection errors in there. Do you have the sagetvclient_0.txt log file as well?

I've been seeing the same connection problem in the latest SageTV RC. I wasn't sure if was SageTV or the SageMC STV so I posted about it in the SageMC forum with snippets from the server and client logs: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...35&postcount=5
It seems to happen at random on the PC client and has only happened a few times over the last couple of weeks. But was happening daily on one of my MVPs when it's left on and unused overnight. To try to see if it was a network issue, I upgraded my gateway router to a Netgear wireless-n router and swapped my Linksys wireless-g router on the other end of the house with the wireless-g that I was using as the gateway router. It's been almost 3 full days and I haven't had the MVP on my furthest LAN segment drop out on me and I haven't seen the PC client drop out yet...I'll have to keep an eye on it for a few more days to see what happens.

Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException
Hey guys,
I have asked for help in some of the other sub secitions but the replies are fairly weak. I also believe I am not the only one with the issue. I am currently on the newest Beta, but had the same problem with 6.4x decoder maping is not working. I get this error in the sagetv_0.txt debug file when playing any file: Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException If I reconfigure my decoders in sagetv - detailed setup it will work for some time(~2-3hrs) then fail again. This is what it look like when it's working: Thu 1/15 17:21:46.072 Seeker.finishWatch(/127.0.0.1:1067@@SAGETV_PROCESS_LOCAL_UI) I have disabled ALL firewalls and tried Xvid, Nvidia, and ffmpeg. It will even do this using the sagetv decoder for SD shows. I am currently rolled back to Java 1.6.07, I was at 1.6.10( i think) and had the same errors. here is some more detailed log info: Thu 1/15 17:13:18.517 # Airs=12006 Thu 1/15 17:13:18.670 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:18.671 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:18.873 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:18.984 MUST SEE FINAL-Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 10109EC8-1-[A[572492,572303,"ER",44215@0115.21:01,59], A[571135,490450,"Caillou",35106@0116.13:00,30]] Thu 1/15 17:13:18.985 MUST SEE FINAL-Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #3-[A[481121,480893,"Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew",10986@0115.21:00,90], A[511246,511029,"MotorWeek",16011@0116.09:30,30], A[565967,451631,"Everybody Hates Chris",31835@0116.19:00,30]] Thu 1/15 17:13:18.985 MUST SEE FINAL-Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture-[] Thu 1/15 17:13:18.985 MUST SEE FINAL-Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #2-[] Thu 1/15 17:13:18.985 MUST SEE FINAL-Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 10109EC8-0-[] Thu 1/15 17:13:19.005 Evaluating Potentials Thu 1/15 17:13:19.077 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:19.279 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:19.280 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:19.482 Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException Thu 1/15 17:13:20.942 COMPLETE SCHEDULE-----**&^%&*-------COMPLETE SCHEDULE After decoder reconfigure in sagetv detailed Setup Thu 1/15 17:20:42.956 Seeker waiting for 213 mins. I think I may have made some progress on my connection problems...may be of use to you or others.
My MVP connection problem was only happening on one particular segment of my LAN and seems to have been a failing network switch or a failing port on that switch. I swapped the wireless AP the MVP is plugged into on that network segment but still had problems. Today I swapped out the switch the wireless AP was plugged into so I am hopeful that this will solve the MVP connection problem...it's only been a couple of hours, but since it's only one MVP on one particular segment of my LAN, I am fairly certain this connection problem is a network hardware failure that just happened to coincide with the installation of a beta/RC version of SageTV. For my PC client, on a different network segment of my LAN, I didn't notice connection drops until I installed the latest SageTV RC and the latest SageMC STV pre-release. I switched back to the default STV earlier this week and haven't had a connection loss since. Maybe I'll switch it back to SageMC STV to see if the connection loss comes back.

But my issue is local to the server, so mine apesrs to be having trouble talking to itself, or the sage app.

Ah, I see. That is strange. The 'Error in MediaServerConnection of :java.io.EOFException' error seems like it may be some kind of buffer underrun condition. It looks like SageTV reading data from somewhere, but then it runs out of data causing that exception error (maybe?). The error log snippet with 'Error with MiniPlayer' is your Media MVP extender losing connection with the SageTV server.
If you are running SageTV as a service, you should enable the debug logging in the sageclient.properties file on the server as well. Something with the client might be causing a problem, but it won't necessarily show up in the sagetv_0.txt file since that only logs info for the SageTV Service and not the client that you interact with on the desktop. Since it sounds like you had a working system before, here are some questions that might be useful to ask yourself if problems seem to appear for no apparent reason... Based on your log, I'm assuming you are using the SageMC STV? If so, have you tried uninstalling it and it's JAR files (yeah, I know it's a pain) and revert back to the default STV to see if the problem goes away? Have you recently installed any SageTV or SageMC plugins? Have you installed any other software, hardware, or Windows updates that might even remotely affect SageTV, your TV tuners, or video playback (drivers, video or dvd players, codec packs, decoders, etc)? Have you checked the SMART data (I use SpeedFan) for your system and recording drives? Have you checked the Windows Event log to see if there are any potential indications of problems showing up there? Have you played around with any buffer settings in any advanced decoder property dialogs or the Windows Registry? Have you recently played around with any settings in the SageTV server or client .properties files? Have any of your fans on or in your computer case failed or, if not using fans, is the CPU, motherboard chipset, or video card overheating? How is your F: drive set up for recordings? Does it have 64k blocks? Is it heavily fragmented? Is it a single drive or a RAID array? If the drive is set up with default block size, then it is probably severely fragmented and the read performance will get worse over time. Good luck.
