What projects were sidelined?
I saw Geektonic tweet out about two SageTV projects being sidelined. What is he talking about? I'm buying into SageTV right now and want to make sure it's still a wise move.

Project Ortus
Ploxee Both disappointing, but Phoenix and the Diamond Theme is still going strong and there are plenty of other things coming down the road to be excited about. Lets just sit back and enjoy what we have for the moment, support and encourage the developers and good things will arrive. As an outsider it can be very difficult to understand just how much time, effort and sometimes money is put into this sort of 3rd party project. It's a downright challenge and all the more reason we must continue to support those who take time out of their busy life to work on such stuff for all of us. Couldn't agree more. I guess I'm not up on the SageTV community. I thought Ortus and Ploxee were being run by 3rd party devs but it sounds like Sage officially had something to do with them. Were they being subsidized by Sage and that has stopped?
In any case, I agree with supporting all the 3rd party devs and look forward to exciting new work. |

No, all of these mentioned above ARE 3rd party projects - not supported by SageTV financially at least

What differentiates the Sage community from others out there is the quality and character of the user community. There are a number of very talented and dedicated developers who work very hard at enhancing the user experience, making a very good product even better. The user community is extremely supportive of the work these developers do, and you don't see any of the nasty infighting and childish comments that are all too common on other forums out there.
You will find the Sage community a very instructive and pleasant place to hang out and you will love the products. Don't have any second thoughts about Sage.

Sage is the best thing out there for any home media enthusiast - it clobbers Microsoft for compatibility and features, although it seem to only now be coming of age. From my experience, Sage7 works really well and is much more stable than its predecessor. While the UI has improved between versions, I continue to be amazed at just how much of the significant changes, enhancements and automations appear to have come from the Sage community on these forums. Maybe Sage should consider funding/ subsidy of community developers, and a more formal organization of the strong resource they offer (which would presumably be much cheaper than the cost of full-time staff), but I digress. When it comes to Sage, I'm all-in and completely recommend their "whole-home" concept for access to unified media of all types (HDDVR, online TV & video sources, picture albums, music collections/ playlists, movie repositories, remote & mobile access, etc). SageTV=Convergence at an affordable price, and it is with much thanks owed to the community hobbyist developers (my hat's off to you all). Lovin' Sage! ![]() |

I can think of only one reason why someone would go with something other than SageTV: If they wanted to use Cablecard. Today, for that, you need Media Center. Rest assured, SageTV is alive and well.
