Best way to play real DVDs using an HD300?
Hey Guys!
I have got the extenders working to play DVDs off my server computer but it isn't very "handy" so wondering if there is a better way. I have AnyDVDHD running on the server. I have shared my DVD drives on the server. I then selected each of the drives as a Media Center Import Directory. Doing this, I can go into Videos/Folders and see the drive, select it, and play it. Is there a better way to do this or is the above pretty much the way it has to be done? Thanks! |

That's pretty much it. Though most would recommend you purchase another harddrive, and just rip them to the server.

Thanks, Fuzzy!
I have a large collection (over 2000) and I don't really want to spend not only that much money on hard drives but that much time either Doing it the way I mentioned above isn't a huge deal except for me having over 20k songs too so the scan takes a few minutes to get through all the media (have to do a scan to get it to see the DVD in the drive). If that's the way it's done then that's the way I'll do it Speaking of which... do you know a way to setup specific media import scans? Meaning, I'm not very often changing my music so if Sage did a scan once a week, I'd be good with that. However, I'm always playing around with videos so those scans can continue at the "normal" interval. Or, is there a way to scan only specific media... like if I want to scan only for videos and not music? Thanks! |

No, unfortunately, you can't restrict scanning to just a particular type/folder. however, if all you're using is DVD's, then you don't necessarily have to re-scan when swapping discs. As long as Sage still think's it's a DVD in that drive, it'll work fine. Switching between DVD and BluRay, though, takes a rescan.

Yep, I had noticed that after I replied. I had to do a rescan because I tried the DVD in my 2nd drive (have Blu-ray and DVD player) and the drive didn't show up until I did another scan (as expected).
Thanks for the help and confirmations! |
