DVB Subtitles in non-STV client

Hi, this is my first post, so please be gentle

I have recently purchased SageTV and the HD300 extender. SageTV is installed on my server in the closet and the extender sits by the TV in the livingroom.

The kids would also like to view recordings on their PC's in their own rooms, so I first of all installed VLC, which previously was able to play anything.

But then there is no DVB subtitles. Tried also with XBMC, no luck either.

Before SageTV I was running with 4therecord as server and a Fantec mediaplayer. 4therecord records as Transport Streams (.ts) and both the Fantec, VLC and XBMC could play the recordings with the embedded DVB subtitles.

SageTV is recording as mpg files, so maybe thats the problem?

Do I really have to purchase a license for the kids PC's also, just to have them watch a movie once in a while?

Best regards

Thumbs up

Hej Henrik,

I would recommend bying a placeshifter license Buy Placeshifter since this can also be used outside the house if you wish. SageTV uses floating licenses, so the license is not dedicated to the kids computer - and if they are not using it you can use it e.g. to listen to your own music from work (I know I do). There is only one small catch with the placeshifter - it does not play DVD's or BluRays! For that you need a SageTV Client instead. But for recorded TV everything should work as expected, as long as the PC running the software have the sufficient power to handle the video.

If buying more software is not an option - you could try using MPlayer instead (that is what SageTV is actually using under the covers) - it might support the subtitles... but I havent tried this :-)

Håber du får lige så meget glæde af dit Sage system som vi har
