DVB subtitles: what is the situation?

I have a Hauppauge Nova-T USB2 receiver (if that is important): I have set cc_option_enabled=true and I can choose between CC Off, CC1 and CC2 on live broadcasts.

However, no subtitles appear where I would expect them, e.g. during news broadcasts where a foreigner is being interviewed.

I have tried running mpg2srt on the recorded video - no information extracted. Nor does WinDVD display any subtitles when it plays the video file. I note that closed caption support is not official right now, but exactly how this relates to DVB subtitling I am not clear on.

Can I get Sage to display these subtitles?

For normal Closed captions to work you need cc_otion-enabled=true, intervideo (or similar), CC1 selected and VMR9 selected.

But for CC in DVB, Try the modified FFDshow codec posted on DVBN. Working well in NA.

Clarification?

So, if I read correctly: DVB subtitles are NOT supported - only closed caption which is something different (U.S. and Canada only?).

How will a different codec help, if the subtitles are not being embedded in the recorded stream (according to mpg2srt) ?

Nothing can help if the subtitles are not embeded.

There are sites which can supply a subtitle file for movie which don't have subtitles, but I have never used that method.

YOu may want to try ccextractor on those recordings to see if there is any digital captions embeddeded. Syntax would be ccextractorwin.exe -srt recording.mpg. That would create an .srt file that you can open in notepad and see if there is captioning that maybe a different decoder could display.

edit: YOu may want to follow this thread for more info on DVB subtitling, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...light=teletext
