HD 200 with 200909030 still chrashes with DVB subtitles

I see a definite improvement, it crashes the HD200 after 3-4 minutes instead of less than a minute and the subtitles display correctly without overlaying one on top of another.

Does anyone have it working more than a few minutes ?

Hi, I noticed you have the NOVA-HD-S2 tuner card like me and like me you cannot see any DVB subtitle, well my friend it looks like that the tuner card doesn't support DVB subtitles as i never got it working even with DVBviewer . I think is time to fire a bug report to Hauppauge.

Hi, I've just received response from Hauppauge...the NOVA-HD-S2 doesn't support DVB subtitles how crap is it? The things is I thought that DVB subtitle support for a tuner card is just a matter of drivers and not hardware, but I could be completely wrong, anyway the 4 NOVA-HD-S2 on my server are going on ebay soon...

What a let down if it really is a hardware issue with my two NOVA-HD-S2 !!! But I also do not get any subtitles on the Cinergy 2400iDT ....

Anyway, I sent SageTV two files (one DVB-S and one DVB-T ) so that they can check out if it is a SageTV issue or not.

This seems totally unbelivable. I suspect that you were told crap. I don't see how or why the card in hardware or driver would filter out specifically the TS packets containing the DVB subtitles... This doesn't make sense and even worse would be pure evil at best because it means someone has managed to create a code for decoding the stream you want to record, analyze it and eat up only those packets...

Nope, it's matter of software period. The hardware + driver only tasks are tuning, acquisition and delivery of TS packets (with PID filtering as an option). The software that make use of the TS packets (here SageTV) is responsible for decoding the stream and do whatever it has to do: playing back audio / video / subtitles...

So I suggest you try harder to see why the DVB subs are not enabled in SageTV. If you want you can download my recorder (LM DVB Smart Recorder; you don't have to use it afterward), install it and while other applications that may use the tuner are shut down, do a channel scan on the frequency you know you should have channels with subtitles.

Provided that my recorder doesn't fail to :

* use your hardware correctly (if you use Vista / Windows 7 all should be ok, on XP you may miss some Directshow BDA updates)

* your hardware is not effectively doing evil things

You should see in the channels list all the subtitles streams carried by your channels (you can even make a test recording if you want to see for yourself that my recorder will be able to extract the subtitles just fine... if this is a format I'm able to decode of course: the DVB subtitle does have many features so to have a perfect decoder without having access to all kind of DVB subs out there is not possible for me)

Regards,
Stéphane.

I'm currently using the Cinergy 2400idt with my recorder and it does expose the DVB subtitles just fine (on all the French channel I know you are receiving, including the HD channels) and I'm able to play them in SageTV (with the plugin included with my recorder)

Note: it was already working with DVBViewer...

This is a SageTV issue... no doubt about this for the Cinergy at least..

Stéphane.

I should let you know that since the last HD200 firmware and with 7.0.13+ on the server, the HD200 plays subtitles perfectly. A new bug was introduced though and that is that there is no video on HD live view . Well, only in about 50% of cases . Recorded programs are fine though.

It's probably a smallish format detect bug.

Like I said in another thread :

I installed v7.0.15 and latest beta firmware on my HD200.

I do get subtitles on DVB-S signal now, but the second line of subtitles is not showing properly , the words are flashing one at a time . but are not displayed. The first line of subtitles is great and is working fine.

I still do not have any subtitles on DVB-T signal

No crash of the HD200 so far

I will send some logs

It works for me (DVB-C) - sort of. I have to toggle the vertical position and pause a bit on live watching. But then it worked great - for ca 10 min. Then the HD-200 froze (spinning cycle) .
. What logs do you need?
Keep up the good work. Sage is great!

Yes, it showed all the subtitles when using the latest firmware and server.

You might need to rescan your files by going in Detailed Setup->Advanced->Rescan existing library files. If that still doesn't work send us the messages debug file when trying to watch that file with subtitles.

I watched TV for hours with and without subtitles , and got no HD200 crash

I managed to get subtitles showing on DVB-T and DVB-S signal. another

But I still have 2 issues :

- Some DVB-S subtitles, such as on BBC1 , have got the words of the sentence about to be displayed that are flashing. I filmed what it looks like and here is a link : Movie of DVB-S issue (6 Mo so better do a right click and "save target as" )

- A few DVB-T channels do not show subtitles, I will send a log to the support team.
