UI request to consider
I don't know if this is the proper area to discuss "improvements", but here it is.
Using a Cable STB locked at 720p with a HD PVR, I frequently have to change the aspect ratio depending on the channel, HD or SD, even certain channels like HSTRYHD require an aspect ratio (fill) different than other HD channels. I have a button on the remote for cycling through the 4 choices which works fine, but there are times when I bring up the menu and pick "Aspect Ratio Mode" (especially when I use Placeshifter on a mouse based PC - no remote to toggle aspect ratios). This brings up a HUGE rectangle in the center of the screen with 4 choices and "Close" - I realize it is slightly transparent, but it usually is right on top of faces, which I use as a guide to the correct aspect - too skinny or too fat......... It should bring up a long, narrow bar perhaps on the top or bottom with the 4 choices and Close so it allows viewing the middle area of the screen. Not a big deal, I'm aware of an add-on to preset aspect based on channel, it's just the way the present menu blocks the most important area of the screen when you use it is what is annoying. I know CTL-J will toggle aspect on a keyboard, but who would remember that? Other than that small issue, I've been a long time user of SageTV and v7 is overall excellent. No complaints, no major problems, it just works! Rob |

If you're using a remote, you could assign "CTRL-J" to a button. I did that when I used to have to deal with this issue.

On my main Sage computer, I have CTL-J mapped to one of the colored buttons on the bottom of the remote, works perfectly. My problem comes when I use Placeshifter or Client on a laptop or another desktop on my network that doesn't have a remote.

You might be interested in the Auto Aspect Ratio Switcher plugin for V7. I use it and it works really well.
