ran out of sata ports and want to upgrade a drive

I ran out of ports in my server, and now I really wish I'd not used an mATX board. I'm planning to upgrade one of my 500gb recording drives with something bigger.

Can I get away with taking the drive out of the recording rotation so nothing new is added, and copying all of the content across the network to a system with a sata port available, or would it be safer and faster to just dig out my usb enclosure.

If you have an enclosure - shut down SageTV and services swap the drive out and put the new one in. Place the old drive in the enclosure and copy the files over. Then start SageTV. As long as the old drive and the new have the same drive letter, you'll be good.

David,
Your network option will work as well as B's method. the speed between the network or the USB option will really depend on your network. It's probably a toss up.

Once all the shows are on the new disk merely replace the 500GB drive in your current system. Then as B said, as long as they are the same drive letter Sage should not know the difference.
