swapping from a SATA drive to a PATA drive
Is it difficult to swap out a SATA drive for a PATA drive, while still retaining all of the recordings on the replacement drive? I need the SATA for a different box, but don't want to loose the recordings. The drive is solely for data, there is no operating system or apps on it.
I'd apprectiate it if someone could either point out the steps, or point me to an URL where the info exists. thanks |

Hi,
I recently replaced a drive and did it like this - put in the new drive create a partition, format it and assign a drive letter - Stop SageTV and if you use it the SageTV Service - make sure that neither the SageTV Service nor the Sage TV are started during boot - copy the directory with the recordings from the old drive to the new drive and make sure that the path stays the same e.g. old:\recordings new:\recordings - shut down the system and remove the old drive - Power the system back on again - change the drive letter of the new drive to the drive letter of the now removed drive - reenable the SageTV Service and start SageTV Martin |
