HDPVR using spdif will not start
I have not posted in a long time (since I changed my screen name) as Sage works like a charm. I have been using 2 hdpvrs, and a usb uirt to tune them with comcast cable boxes for a couple of years. The system is rock solid when I use analog audio input to the HDPVR, however when I switch the input to be component + spdif all I ever get is no signal and the hdpvr never fires up to record, switch back to component input only and it works fine (and I have tried every permutation of install, driver, restart, etc all to no avail).
Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have 5.1 sound. Anyone have any ideas, currently running latest sage beta (but had same issue in v6). Server is whs, hdpvr are both rev D2? |

Someone else who recently posted about a similar problem discovered that they weren't connecting the optical cable into the right jack (input) on the HD-PVR and it turns out the HD-PVR won't record if it can't find a valid audio signal.

To add to Darcilicous' post, make sure your cable box is spitting out a signal on the toslink cable. If it's not that could lead to the same problem as plugging the toslink in the wrong hole.

Well I feel pretty silly.............
Thanks for the pointers, my first thought in reading these replies was you have to be kidding me. Just for the heck of it I went down and pulled the HDPVR's out of the nice rack they sit in down the basement, sure enough when I finally wrangled them out it turns out that when I bought them a few years ago and cabled them up the spdif was plugged into the wrong port on both units. Moved it over and voila it all works.
I can't believe I never checked something that simple after all this time. The only solace I can possibly take is that hopefully my title on the post should be easier for someone to find with the search function......... |
