New server for SageTV 7 -- 64-bit Win7 or 32-bit?

All my stuff should be here tonight to build my new SageTV server. I have Windows 7 Pro. Would I be better off installing 32-bit or 64-bit Win7 with SageTV 7?

My machine will be running a quad-core AMD chip and 4GB RAM. It will be a dedicated SageTV server for at least two HD300's and 3-4 PC clients.

I tried to search, but the terms are too short. All I got hits on was "bit".

One single question...

Are you intending to use Firewire for channel changing a set top box?

1. Yes - 32-bit
2. No - 64-bit

and it is firewire channel changing that will hurt my ability to go to WHS Vail (64bit required). Sad about that...wonder if the USB UIRT is very stable...

I used a USB-UIRT perfectly stable for about 4 years (first 3 for Cable boxes, last 1 for Dish network). Don't recall it ever missing a channel change in that time.

The only channel changes I have missed with my USB-UIRT are from it not being pointed at the box. Since I put an IR "bug" on the box I haven't missed one Of course I've only been using it for about a month now, not the 4 years+ that Fuzzy has

Wow! that's amazing. After lots of tweaking of repeat counts and delay settings in the config files and moving the IR emitter around, the best I've been able to do is one incorrect change out of every 40 or 50 recordings. I think it has a lot to do with the cable box IR Sensitivity. I have one STB that hasn't missed a channel change in over a year (of course, that box is SD only, so it doesn't get used as often anymore, now that I've upgraded my other box to HD).

As long as the codes are learned well, it will work every bit as reliably as your handheld remote (in fact, it's probably higher power than most handhelds). That said, I don't use one anymore, as I've got strictly R5000's and HDHR's in my setup now. Still use two USB-UIRT's for receivers though in my two viewing positions.
