Adding a menu item

Is there an easy way to add a custom menu item that launches another application? I'd like to add something like the "Launch Hulu Desktop" item on the online services menu.

I know I can probably do this by writing my own plugin but I'm hoping that there is a simpler way to do it (so I don't need to learn how to do plugins) like an existing plugin that can add menu items based on user-configured settings.

For v7, I believe there is a plugin that allows you to do that in the plugin manager list.

I've looked at "External Apps" and it is meant to launch programs that do some operation on the video files, and they are only accessible from the video options dialog. I just want to add an item to the Online menu that launches Boxee.

I recently asked a question regarding that plugin. I am looking for way to restart or shutdown my Vista Server from the couch (via HD200). I think launching a batch app is the only way to do that, and from the menu would be ideal.

I also recall the Dynamic Customizable Menu plugin allowed this, but we all have seen the desire for this in v7...but have not seen plans for delivering it. I think it's a big effort for plugin developers to consider.

Yeah, this is my #1 most missed thing from V6. I'd love the option to launch some programs via the menu, particularly my emulators like I used to

I'm right there with ya Fidgety. I miss being able to fire up MAME and grab my xbox 360 controller for some Golden Axe without ever leaving the sofa As much as I love dynamic menus, at this point I'd settle for the ability to just add an item and tie it to an external program.

That is one of the reasons I have to use the STV3 with Dynamic menus using Version 7 on my client. I have all the emulator games defined as menu Items... using my scripts.

There are already other threads about this but I'll just say again "me too me too!!"

I too love my game hooks. . .

I suppose I could go back to using sagemc in v7. . . but I like the new UI. . .
I also want my Disk Bar back. . .
