What's the new SageMC?

Is there a consensus on a plug-in/STVI that is the new SageMC for v7, i.e. the new easy to use, clean, high WAF user interface utilizing v7 UI features?

I am looking at buying SageTV, an extender, and hooking up my HD-PVR to create a test bed to compare directly against my Windows Media Center (hopefully soon with Ceton tuner) and my DirecTV MRV installation. It will cost a lot to keep all three running for a few months, but I want to pick the best of the three (or more appropriately, have my wife pick the best of the three) and move forward. It may not be fair to compare SageTV 7 while in Beta, but if I can get a cleaner UI for it, it should fair well in the comparison.

There is already a SageMC plugin available for v7. There are also a couple of other interfaces coming with no ETA.

IMO, it's the V7 STV. But then again, aside from the graphics, I didn't personally find SageMC all that clean or easy to use (not since it's very early days).

There are some die-hard SageMC users on V7 that are still using SageMC. Quite a few (myself included) have moved over to the default UI.

There are a few plugin's that replicate some of the SageMC functionality in the Repository to make some of the behavior in the default UI more in keeping with what SageMC users are used to - but there isn't a full on replacement UI other than SageMC yet.

Ortus and Phoenix are both UI replacements and are in development, Ortus probably being a little closer to the market than Phoenix.

hello Bialio

I've not made the jump to v7 yet and would want to stick with SageMC for the timebeing. I use your simple mini guide - is there any reason why it wouldn't work on v7 and latest SageMC ?

Thanks

It should work, although I haven't verified any of the old plugins I have against V7.

I'm using SageMC with V7 with success. But I'm looking forward to switching to the new UI. My problem is I like viewing/organizing my imported videos by Genre/category which AFAIK can only be done in SageMC. I'm hoping the MyMovies plugin will eventually solve this.

Thanks for that. My request was certainly a newbie post. Easily found info on both from a search. I'm just use to TheGreenButton.com that returns nothing or everything on any search. But what do you expect from a website run by the Media Center team at Microsoft.

Google Advanced Search with the website url added can help. I use it on this forum all the time. Especially since I get irked when I try to search too fast and have to wait for the timer

Just made the move to v7 over this past weekend - tried the default UI for about an hour then took a vote and everyone wanted SageMC back. The TV recordings areas, and menus are much easier to navigate then the new UI's submenu stuff.. No one wanted to have to use the arrows to navigate the main menus up up up.. left down down - select.. etc.. :S much easier to just use the up /down - select.. up / down select.. methods provided by sageMC.

To me the advantages of v7 have nothing to do with the new default UI but will allow the community to quickly mold and release features for it.
