HTPC -> Samsung 32" LCD - No Sound

I have a spare computer that I want to hook up to my TV. I have the audio hooked up via a 3.25mm to Composite adapter from the sound card, but there is no audio coming from the TV. I have verified that the sound card does work, and have also tried using the onboard audio but that didn't work either. I have checked all menus and can't find anything relating to the audio input. I tried 2 different adapters and neither worked. I tried OTA and sound works fine. I tried every composite connection on the TV and nothing worked. What else could it be?

Thanks,

Tony

Are you using a 1/8" (your 3.25mm) to stereo RCA (white and red) cable for audio? If not please describe the cable in more detail and possibly provide an example (i.e. how many rings on the connector on the computer end and how many RCA jacks on the other and what color).

Yes. Oops, it's RCA not Composite, my bad.

And what jack on your sound card are you plugging that into? You should be looking for one labeled Line Out.

On the TV side, you want to plug into the white and red RCA jacks that go with the video input you're using. So for instance if you have a single RCA cable connecting your graphics card to a yellow RCA jack on your TV, you want the red and white jacks that are grouped with that yellow jack.

You'll also need to select the sound card as the audio playback device either in Windows Control Panel or in Sage's Detailed Setup.

I have the video hooked up via VGA. I have the red and white audio connectors plugged into the correct input on the TV. I just tried reinstalling the drivers for the sound card but it still doesn't work. I have it plugged into the green jack, but I've tried them all and get the same result. This seems like something that should be incredibly easy to me.

Do you have a pair of headphones or PC speakers you could plug into your sound card to verify that it's working? Try playing something in Windows Media Player to remove Sage from the equation for testing purposes.

Similarly, if you have an old cassette player or something with a headphone jack, try plugging your TV into that to see if you get sound that way.

Your troubleshooting will be more effective if you test each component separately to isolate the problem to either the PC end or the TV end.

That was the first thing I did.

I haven't even installed SageTV yet. I've tried playback through Windows Media Player, and Internet Explorer.

I will see what I have laying around.

Thanks

Samsung LNT3242H.

I assumed I'm supposed to use the ones under the VGA adapter, which is what I am using.

From that picture, it seems you want to use the 3.5mm jack on the left of the VGA input...

EDIT: Which is actually what the manual tells you too...

Generally the ones that are grouped in the same white outline go together. So as Fonceur says, the 3.5mm AUDIO jack goes with the PC VGA input, and the RCA jacks labeled DVI IN (HDMI) go with the HDMI inputs to their right.
