Samsung SIR-TS160 "-" support

I have hooked the Actisys IR-200L into my Samsung SIR-TS160 box, however I am having trouble getting the "-" to work right.

Whenever Sage wants to record an OTA signal, I tries to tune the Sat version of the channel. I attempted to check the major/minor box in the Detailed Setup menu, but it didn't seem to do anything. I also cannot manually remap to anything with a dash...

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

On a side note, I have both cable (from Comcast) and D* (OTA HD) (from Samsung box)... is there a way to specify which network source is used for certain shows?

Sage tried to copy the news from NBC (OTA-HD), while I would prefer it to record from the cable service...

Matt,

What do you mean by the 'Sat' version of the channel?

Checking major/minor does 2 things. If there's no "-" command alread programmed, it'll prompt you to teach it one. The code for the TS160 is already in there so it won't ask you. The other thing is when it tunes to a DTV channel; it'll do the major - dash - minor sequence to tune that channel. The Detailed Info for anything on a DTV channel should have it's major-minor number shown there.

Can you please give me a specific example of it doing it wrong?

For the side note, there's no way currently to specify a preferred source. That will be added in the future as part of the multi-tuner support.

Thanks,

For instance, if it is recording the 10pm news on NBC (channel 5), it will put it 005 through the Actisys to my Samsung...

This is a non-existent channel on my setup. However, I do have 05-1, which is what I would like it to do.

Is there a way to tell what channel it is in the guide (5 vs. 5-1)??

When I turned on the major-minor thing, there were no prompts at all.

Do I need to go back into channel setup to add the DTV stations?

To tell what channel it is in the guide, go to its Detailed Info. See the attached image.

You need to have the DTV stations enabled in your lineup to use them. You can do this in channel setup.

Thanks, Jeff. I will try this tonight and let you know how it goes. I did not ever go back to the channel selection once I enabled the major-minor key...

How do I enter the DTV channels into Sage?

When I go into Channel Setup, I pick from Comcast Addison or DirecTV Chicago. There are no other choices.

If I choose DirecTV Chicago, there are only 2, 5, 7, etc. not the digital versions to select from. If I try to remap it, it is just changing the number associated with that same (non-digital) channel.

Please help...

Ok, it looks as though in that picture you set up Los Angeles, CA - Local Broadcast as a service to get the digital stations.

If I try to set up Chicago, IL - Local Broadcast, it knocks out the DirecTV because it is using the same input (S-Video). Also, when I do that, I still do not see the digital stations at all.

I must be missing something...

Matt,

Since no cable companies in Chicago carry digital stations, none of them show up in the listings. There is a way to modify the DB file so it will change to the major-minor stations without having the digital station data. I'll email you how to do it. This'll get it behaving how you want.

Matt,

I have the Samsung TS-160 as well. In order to integrate the OTA/DTV feeds in SageTV Jeff taught me how to manually edit Wiz.bin to assign a digital channel to the satellite channel. Basically, it still loads information for the satellite NBC (say channel 4), but tunes the digital station (say 4-1). I don't know if Jeff wants to make this info handy for everyone or not.

Yes, he showed me how to do that as well. The problem then is this. I have a two tuner style setup (Samsung 160 for Digital OTA and DirecTV (through S-Video), and Comcast Cable (through rf)). When I modify the stations in the wiz.bin file, it converts all OTA and cable stations to tune to the digital stations, so I lose the cable stations entirely.

Jeff said he is working on this for a future release...

This is REALLY easy now with 1.2.5 Beta. Just check the 'major-minor channel' option in Detailed Setup->Advanced. Then it'll prompt to learn the '-' code unless it already knows it.

Then go into Setup->Channel Setup. Select the channel to modify, and press Options (or right-click) on it. Then enter the Major-Minor channel (i.e. 4-1) and it'll use that.
