Firewire going away, slowly
It looks like the FCC is going to allow cable operators to give out STB without a firewire port on them. They must supply it if you ask for it. They instead want to use an IP interface. Personally I can't wait. I only use firewire for channel changing, but if I could do that over IP then I can finally go to a 64bit OS. Plus an IP interface is so much easier to develop against that I expect to see some greater and faster advances in third party tools. Did I mention I can't wait?
