How constrained is wireless on HD200?

I've read that there's only one wireless adapter that's supported by SageTV for use with the HD200 (the Encore), but reviews of it on Newegg are pretty terrible and it's cheap as dirt (only $9 plus $7 shipping). The best reviews are for these two adapters, both of which sell for about $20:

ASUS USB-N10 USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter

and

AZiO AWU212N USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter 1T2R

Is there any chance either of these would work with the HD200? At least the AZiO seems to have a Ralink chipset, but it might not be the same one as the Encore.

[Update: I ordered the AZiO so will post whether, and/or how well, it works.]

Since the only driver in the firmware is for the particular Ralink software, only other adapters using the same chipset would work. My revision A DWA-160 won't work because it uses a different chipset for example.

Well we'll see. The supported adapter is definitely low rated, but the unit I ordered also uses a ralink chipset, though perhaps not exactly the same one. They refer to it as a "family" though, so perhaps it's close enough.

Dont hold your breath-

Narflex said it "may" work with adaptors using the Ralink chipset 2870
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...set#post373142

I tried a Gigaware (radioshack) N-adaptor that uses the Ralink RT3071L chipset and it did not work. Kick@ss adaptor as far as range goes so I was bummed.

Is there a list for any known working adaptors?

Yes the Azio I bought also uses the 3071 chipset. Gets great reviews, but the HD200 doesn't recognize it. Bummer.

Samsung?

I had the adapter that came bundled with my Samsung Blu-ray player, but figured there was no way it would work on the HD200. Well, it almost works. The firmware recognizes it and will try to connect to the network allowing me to input the network name and password, but it doesn't actually connect for some reason. It might be a router thing, but it eventually just times out.

Why don't you just use the one that is supported by Sage? It's cheap and I'm sure there are lots of people using it. I have 2 of them and while I have a wired connection to my HD200 I have tried them out and they seemed to work just fine.

Edit: I just checked Newegg the ENCORE ENUWI-N has 226 reviews averaging 4 out of 5 eggs, which is pretty good IMO. It appears it's no longer available. The only one I see now is the ENCORE ENUWI-N3, which does have some bad reviews and I have no clue if it works with the HD200 or not. I don't know if you can still find the other one or not.

You can always check the SageTV Store.

That would make too much sense.

Seriously though I tend to forget that Sage sells anything other than software and extenders.

The price with shipping is about $37. It's easy to find that item for $10 less, but the problem is that many of these companies don't deliver what you ordered. They substituted the N3 for the N I ordered without even bothering to tell me. No I have to deal with returning the darn thing.

I just bought one on Ebay for $17.50 including shipping. I'm currently directly cabled in, but like to have it just in case. Plus, I might get another HD200 and put it in the basement next to the rowing machine. What the heck. It'll give me something to do besides concentrating on my arthritis.
