Windows 7 woes (Remotes & Turning off TV)

Has anyone verified that SageTV V7 does respond correctly, i.e. doesn't crash, in the face of monitor resolution changes? On Windows 7 32-bit, V6.6 is intermittently crashing when the monitor changes resolutions.

FYI - I wanted to detail what I've found out about this for other people's benefit. I have HTPC (HD5670 graphics) HDMI out connected to Onkyo TX-SR608 HDMI input. HDMI output from receiver goes to HDMI input on Samsumg LCD HDTV (I think it's LN52B650) model. I believe that EDID is working properly for both receiver and TV.

Problem - when I have STV in fullscreen, I switch the TX-SR608 input from the "PC" HDMI input to something else (direct cable, blu-ray, etc). When I come back to "PC", windows are resized and SageTV will sometimes have crashed.

Why this happens - My display is set to 1920x1080x60hz when watching SageTV. But when I switch to direct cable input on receiver, the TV/monitor will autodetect the change in source freq from 60Hz (progressive from PC) to 30Hz (interlaced 1920x1080x30hz from cable box). This change in monitor resolution is feed back to all receiver HDMI inputs (as I think this is the way things are supposed to work in windows 7 since the receiver is working like a KVM switch). Also, there appears to be some "dead" time in between the switch in freq. During this dead time, the PC doesn't see any monitor and reverts to the "default monitor" that has a 1024x768 resolution. It's this resolution that causes the windows to be resized.

Work Arounds - I will try the VNC thing above to change the "default monitor" resolution from 1024x768 to 1920x1080. This may help but I still bet that STV6 will still die on occasion. I will also try the USB-UIRT/girder trick of minimizing STV6 when I see a different input on the receiver being chosen. I don't want to buy DVI doctor or gefen HDMI detective as this is fundamentally a software bug/issue in SageTV. Maybe windows 7 could do things better too. But, SagetV shouldn't crash on display resolution change.

I haven't had any issues like this since 7.0.12 was released, but I never had crashes, things were just displayed incorrectly. My box is Win7 x64 so I can't answer your question with a definitive yes it works fine on x32, but the install is pretty painless if you wanted to try it out.

If you make a backup before installing, it's really easy to revert back to V6 immediately. I don't think the wiz.bin will go backwards from V7 to V6 so if you watch things, record things, etc you may lose that information if you roll back, but if you just do a quick check you can uninstall V7, reinstall V6, then copy your backup directory back over and Sage won't know the difference.
