HD PVR and device manager

I am trying to add a 2nd HD PVR to my win2k3 box, but the issue is that when I plug it in, windows installs with the same name as the one that is already in there -- Hauppage HD PVR Capture Device -- anything else that I have added like a dup hauppage card always put a #2 or #3 after it. So now in SageTV, when it goes to use it an address it, it gets all confused and sometimes tunes the wrong cablebox, but yet if I take out one HD PVR and then pick my Z2 or Z3 it only tunes the correct one. So I think the issue is with how Device Manager is putting it in. I was using 1.5.6.1 -- but have reverted to 1.0.5.301. The only thing I haven't tried is a reboot with both of them plugged in to see if windows would sort it out. I don't think its a Sage issue, I am more concerned about the non-uniqueness of the device in manager. But I am running SageTV 6.6.2 and SageMC 6.3.9a. My other thought was to remove my hauppage 150 and make room for USB 2.0 card and put the 2nd PVR on another bus. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully you tried a reboot and that fixed everything....

My only other suggestion was going to be to try to make sure the two units are plugged into separate USB busses. Obviously buying a USB card would ensure that occured, but you could try plugging the 2nd unit into different USB ports and rebooting between each attempt to see if something works.

Sorry, it sounds like you have already thought of everything I can think of to try.

I am curious how this went? I just got my first HDPVR running and I am about to add another one!

My device manager still shows a exclamation point (!) with the yellow circle and calls its a "Multimedia Video Controller" but it works. So I don't know if I should be concerned.

On reboot I have seen it reference it as a HD-PVR so go figure?

reboot did not resolve, also tried plugging it into different usb ports in the back and then in the front, i believe the system treats that a separate bus, no? i was hoping that like USB-UIRT when you move to another port it wants to completely re-install, but alas, it just pops into device manager with the same same as the other. My only other alternatives is the USB 2.0 card, or running HWclear and start over. FIOS comes in like 2 weeks, so I may just hold off until then. I just wish there was a way to rename it.

My device manager shows two HD-PVRS with the same device name. This should not be a problem.
It is in SageTV where they should show as two different devices in the channel setup screens.
They should show up there as two different capture devices -
Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device
Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device #2
You have to select each one and setup your usb-uirt and zones respectively for each device.
Sounds like you are not setting the capture devices properly in the SageTV setup!?

I've got two PVRs as well, and in the device mangler, they're both identical looking. In sage, one of them is #2.
No problems or confusion when tuning them. I'm using a UIRT with two zones.

Have you verified that both units are running the same drivers and firmware? I bet that would totally botch things up.
Plug them in one at a time, separately, and do the driver install/firmware setup on both of them to make sure they're both totally equal.
I also went out of my way to make sure that each PVR is on its own distinct usb controller.

I plugged in my second one and they too look alike in device manager. The second one didn't show up in sage until I rebooted. I rebooted and they both showed up.

Also they are plugged in to the same USB hub. I haven't tested the second one with a source yet...

update

As someone mentioned earlier -- they are in fact named the same in device manager, but it was not until after the reboot, that the 2nd one showed up in sagetv and with a #2 after it. Also, of note, I could not use both PVR's using the latest drivers 1.5.6.1, they would start to record and then the unit would restart. Reverting to 1.05.301 -- really did the trick though, complete stability and both tuners are running off the USB bus in the system.

Now I can't wait for FIOS!!!

Thanks to all those how gave their input, very much appreciated.
