Comcast HD STB -- IR Sensor
Well, my TVs are now switched over to STBs, courtesy of Comcast encrypting almost all their digital channels other than the OTA stuff. At least the boxen aren't quite as big and ugly as I was afraid they'd be
![]() But I'm running into a problem I didn't expect as regards integrating a 2nd STB and HDPVR into my Sage setup. Having two STBs near each other (the first feeds into the TV) means that the IR remote control for the STBs turns them both on and off at the same time. Obviously, I don't want the 2nd STB -- the one tied into the HDPVR -- to be controlled that way. However, the IR receiver in the STB seems to be so sensitive that the only way I can keep it from seeing the remote is to turn it completely around so the back side faces the room, and then shove it under the home theater furniture stack. This will not earn me a particularly high wife appreciation factor ![]() Does anybody know where the IR sensor is in the Comcast HD STBs? If I knew where it was I could maybe fashion some kind of blind for it (although simply putting newspaper over the unit doesn't "blind" it unless I cover most of the top as well as the front). |

Usually shining a flashligh on the plastic will allow you to see through it or may at least help you identify where the window is (ie..mine looks like solid black plastic except for one spot that is brown oval when I shine a light on it).
