Rename Tuners?
I've searched everywhere, but can't find an answer to this question. Is there a way to rename a tuner? I have 3 Identical PVR150s in my system, and sage uses them with the following names:
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #3 Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #2 Tuner #1 and #3 are digital, and #2 is running as analog, and I would like to rename them as such, but cannot find a solution to this. Plus, I really don't need them to be named something quite that long. Is this even possible?

Search for the "device name" line in sage.properties

There's a plug-in for it - it's old (like Sage v4.x?) but it still works. Search for "tuner rename" in the Customizations forum. This gives you an easy UI interface to do it, if you would rather not mess with the properties file.

I tried out the plugin, but it seems like it might be a SageMC specific thing as the settings are not applied accross Sage to other areas such as the Webserver (it still uses the default names).
Last night, before I posted this thread, I tried changing the device_name parameter for the 3 encoders in the properties file manually. After I restarted the sage service, everything got all messed up and one tuner disappeared from sage (but was still in properties) and all 3 got set back to their default names, so I don't think that field does what we think it does. Anyone have any other suggestions?

For the web server there's a file in the webserver folder named extender.properties. It contains a translation table for MAC addresses to real names.

While I appreciate the response, this thread was about tuner names, not extender names.

I don't really understand what you're trying to accomplish that the plug-in suggested to you above isn't doing. I use the plug-in with the default STV so it's not SageMC specific. I've renamed my tuners and they show up in the scheduled recordings with the new names on my PC client as well as extenders.
I don't use the webserver so I don't know if it applies the new names to it. Based on your post it appears it doesn't. Though I still don't know what you mean by: Quote:

Maybe I did something wrong with the plugin. I'll try it out and if I find any specific problems I'll post. Thanks for letting me know that it works for you in those regards.
Update: OK, so I installed the plugin again and set the names on the encoders. My first mistake was assuming I only had to do this on the server. Turns out I had to install the plugin on all my machines. I assumed that the plugin set the names and all machines would use them, but I guess you have to have the plugin installed in order to use the names. One area for example that even the plugin doesn't help is when you get info on a recording and it specifies which tuner recorded it. This still states the original full name. Another area is the webserver (it's reading the tuner names from somewhere). The only place I've seen this actually work is in the parallel recordings menu. What I'm looking for, is an option for sage to not use that original long ambiguous tuner name at all. Maybe something they can add in the future because it doesn't seem like a plugin will accomplish this.
