Placeshifter using too much bandwidth - throttle?

I have installed the newest version of SageTV last weekend and it works great, but for one issue. If I connect to my SageTV box from anywhere on the internet (i.e. through my broadband connection) I am told my home internet slows down considerably. I am getting a 1500ms ping time inside my home network out until I drop the SageTV connection. Is there any way to make the output to the Placeshifter encode at a lower quality (or some how else use less bandwidth)?

You can change the Placeshifter bitrate on the Streaming tab of the Settings dialog. (See Appendix N of the SageTV manual.)

But high ping times are a measure of latency, not bandwidth. It's possible that your router has some performance issues, unrelated to your upstream bandwidth, that's causing it to bog down under heavy load.

Thank you for your reply.

My router is provided by the company I receive my broadband connection from. It is possible, but my upstream connection is not particularly fast.

I am using the Linux Ubuntu install of SageTV. I downloaded the manual, but the manual seems to be showing examples for Windows. Is there a manual or instructions on how to do this for the Linux install?

Thank you again.

I don't use Linux myself, but I assume the streaming options are the same regardless of platform. (And you adjust those settings on the Placeshifter side, not on the server, in case that wasn't clear.)
