A few problems with HD200

Hi, I recently purchased HD200 and I'm having a few issues with that device, running it in standalone mode. Please help:

- Device can't see Windows shares on the local network although it can see the Windows host itself. It says "Invalid Directory" when trying to browse shares on the host.

- Device can't decode LPCM audio from MPEG files (DVD files), I got video but no sound.

- When connecting to TVersity UPnP server and starting playing a single file in the directory with many other video files the device only plays that single file and doesn't start playing automatically the next file. Can this be changed? I couldn't find anything in the configuration options.

- How to add files to the play list? There is no option to do so.

- And finally, what's the return policy for HD200? I couldn't find anything on the SageTV website. If I can't resolve all those issues it makes me one unsatisfied customer and I'll want to return the product.

Thanks

Why are you running the HD200 in standalone mode?

Because I don't have SageTV software on my PC, the player should be fully functional in standalone mode according to the company's website.

Have you tried to run the HD200 in stand alone mode without Tversity?

IMHO using the HD200 in stand alone mode is a little like using a Ferrari to deliver pizzas. It really is at its best when being used in extender mode. Having said that I know that a fair number of folks use it quite successfully in stand alone mode.

That's not very helpful.

You did not answer my question....have you tried using the HD200 in stand alone mode not using TVersity? If so what was the result?

My comment was meant to be helpful because the HD200 IMO is built around the SageTV server software and I thought it might nudge you to at least give the SageTV server software a trial run. There is a very good chance that you will really enjoy your HD200 purchase should you do so.

Have you updated the firmware? If not then the box probaby has the initial firmware on it that had some problems accessing network shares.

Put the latest beta firmware on and see if that helps.

At the update firmware screen, enter 2382 (beta) and update to the latest, which is only a few days old.

See if that helps and let us know.

OP, not sure if this is helpful or not:

I just got the HD200 a couple of days ago and had the same problem. It would randomly tell me Invalid directory on my shares. Then I'd reboot everything and try again and it would work, then a little while later it would tell me invalid directory for a share I was just seeing a little earlier.

I feel like the setup process around the HD200 is poorly documented. I've had the box on for two days straight and the little icon in the upper right that indicates that it is sync'ing or downloading something or whatever has been on the entire time. I got the feeling when I was playing with it trying to fix the Invalid Directory problem that it just needed some time to scan my computer and figure out where everything was, and while it was doing that it wouldn't let me browse/play stuff.

But again, I have no idea. Mine seems to have settled down and is working better now.

I actually updated to beta firmware and was able to connect to Windows shares, so this problem is solved. But HD200 still doesn't play LPCM audio from my DVD files and also audio from my *.3gp video files (filmed with Nexus One phone), video is fine but there is no sound.

LPCM audio

Anyone know of a way to get LPCM audio to work on mpg files? I'd hate to have to convert all my video files. I'm running in standalone mode with a portable hard drive (Gonna bring it to a vacation home, no internet or servers).

I have the same problem.
HD200 can see my computer, but it cannot find any shares.

I noticed that the default workgroup name of 'Workgroup' is set up somewhere, but I cannot change it.

I have Windows 7 Pro and firmware 20090903. I don't have the option to 'enter' any code anywhere...all I can do is check for updates.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I was able to download the beta firmware (20100208), but I am still completely unable to see ANY share anywhere.

It would be fantastic if there was just a little documentation about how to handle these things.

I'm still struggling with this. I have the new beta firmware, I can enter my network path (\\server\share) now, but the theater just tells me it isn't accessible. I have turned off my firewall entirely, the share permissions are set to give both 'everyone' and 'Guest' full control. I have Windows7 Pro (32bit), I have made the registry changes that were researched and provided by Moof here

I am stumped...any thoughts?

McThick, try this;

Start -> Control Panel -> Choose Homegroup settings (Under Network and Internet)

Near the bottom of the page, click "Change advanced sharing settings..."

Assuming you've configured your current network as Home or Work, then you will start under the Home or Work (current profile) options. If you made a mistake and configured your network as Public, you need to fix that. Google how.

Now, make sure the options are set as follows;

Turn ON network discovery

Turn ON file and printer sharing

Turn ON sharing so anyone with network......

Turn OFF password protected sharing

After this, you should be able to enter and browse your network shares. If you're still having problems, double check the security options for each folder (not just the sharing options).

To be honest, the HD200 is great in extender mode but really feels ....unfinished... in standalone mode... it's not very helpful with it's errors and the documentation is seriously lacking. That said, once it's working it works great so don't give up.

Here is a good link but it is for vista, pretty similar to windows 7 without the homegroup if you are still unable to access following aoshi's post.
