Fast foward crash....6.6.2.218

Ok, I've been having a fast forward crash for some time now. If I fast forward to qucikly SageTV UI will crash. (Not the service it stays running.) This is on recorded shows, I haven't seen in on live TV but I don't pause a long time and then fast forward on it..

I'm running Windows 7
4GB RAM
AMD X4 810
AMD 760G video
DIVX decoder
HD PVR

Everything else is stable unless I fast foward too quickly but it gets really annoying. I can restart the UI but it's a pain. It happens with my Streamzap or directly using a mouse.

Any ideas of what to try or how to send in debugging on it?

If you are using the MS DTV decoders, the solution is to not use them for H.264.

Thatnks but nope, as I mentioned I'm using the DIVX decoder. I haven't put on the native recording patch.

Anyone have ideas? If not how do I send debug information in to help Sage locate this problem.

My wife is about at the end - She's to the point of demanding we go to a Moxi.

Windows 7 is not supported: not as a SageTV Server OS and not as a SageTV Client OS.

The next version of SageTV, be it 6.something or 7.0, will most likely address the issue of Windows 7 support, but there is no ETA whatsoever on a release date for the next version.

So you've got 4 choices:

1. Live with the current issue and low WAF.
2. Try out all kinds of different decoders and settings and properties file parameters to attempt to fix the issue yourself, meanwhile low WAF.
3. Revert to Windows XP.
4. Buy a Moxi or other turnkey DVR solution.

Sorry I missed that. I guess all I can tell you is what seems to work for me, YMMV: I use CoreAVC for H.264 and Overlay render mode with the latest beta (Update 10 + 2 extra files - dont forget these) native recording patch.

korben_dallas is right about no windows 7 support. It's disappointing but what can you do? I'm in the same boat.

Had the same problem on Vista so I'm not sure how the OS is playing into the equation. Windows 7 isn't going away and it's being adopted much more quickly than Vista was. I really do love Sage, I've been with it since version 2 but at some point it needs a major overhaul and support for HD with more than the HD PVR. I know that's problematic but hopefully it will change.

There are tons of threads with suggestions for next gen Sage so I'll leave it at that but I think I'm at the point where I'm going to have to get a Moxi to keep my wife happy.

Thanks for the information guys. Even it it's not what I wanted to hear or a solution. I do apprecate the time to post. ;^)

For what it's worth, I've had significantly fewer FFWD crashes since upgrading the video card drivers on both my server and my client to the newest ATI Catalyst drivers.

CoreAVC didnt help? I'm just curious, it seems to be a "magic bullet" for all of my H.264 woes.

Thanks everyone. I updated my video card drivers and took the plunge and installed the native recording patch. I'm not using the Microsoft decoder as it seemed to take a lot of CPU, or at least the behavior was sluggish.

I'm back on the DIVX decoder and knock on wood - with the latest AMD drivers and the latest native decoder patch the FFWD crash seems to be gone or at least so infrequent that I haven't seen in a few days.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Had the same problem with Windows 7 64. I also upgraded my nvidia geforce 9 drivers to Windows 7 64 driver. Plus I found that when I right clicked on the SageTV icon on my desktop and checked into run properties, "run in XP3 mode" was checked. Once I unchecked "run in XP mode" and let Windows 7 run sage my crash problems went almost to zero (still have crashes once in awhile while searching guide or other sage menu commands).
