Really happy with the way things are going

So I've finally put a lot more time into my system and I've got to say that I'm quite pleased with Sage at this point.

Between having things on a computer I have direct access to and the rabid enthusiasm of the sage modding community, I've now got a DVR system that is better than my old replay system and much much more stable and reliable.

It isn't 100% what i'm looking for yet, but it is certainly great, and there's no reason I can't make the changes i need and smooth out some of the rough edges.

SageTV is great, isn't it!

You are right, though, the community makes a huge huge positive impact. Without these forums, all the help, and all the added value the community gives, SageTV would be a difficult product to go at alone.

It's also a good time for the HD PVR, as its issues have pretty much been ironed out since its arrival some time ago.

Care to expand on the details of your array and why you chose that RAID level?

It is a sata to pci 4 drive card. I picked raid 10 because i don't like raid 5 (on cheap cards it can have a huge write penalty and almost no read advantage), and i wanted the speed i'd get from a stripe -- but i know better than to trust a drive alone, much less two drives striped alone. I had 4 320gb drives sitting around which gives me about 600gb media storage space -- coming from two replays with 160 each, it was a pretty easy decision.

Would you suggest something else?

Nah, just curious. I'm currently running 3 x 500GB off a cheap Silicon Image SATA II card. Straight hookups, no raid. So far it's working great. I'm not too big on keeping TV shows, and if it's a movie I want to keep, I try to find it on Blu-Ray.

Do you have ATSC in your area? If so you should consider picking up an HVR2250 or HD Homerun as this will give you a couple more HD sources on the cheap with no monthly recurring costs.

I probably have tons of ATSC tv here (li NY), but the majority of stuff i watch wouldn't be OTA, like the science channel, discovery, history and foodtv (well, pretty much only good eats on food tv).

I've had no problems getting everything i want with two tuners on cable boxes. I don't even have an HD tv yet (two 150lb CRTs), but i figured if i was going to buy the gear to move away from replay, i may as well buy gear that will support my next upgrade, which would obviously be new TVs. These 300lbs of tvs are staying with the house when I move.

Well, my old replay gear sold on ebay last night, and what's more, for half of what I spent to upgrade to Sage. Not too shabby!

I've been using replaytv since 2001, here's hoping Sage lasts even longer!
