Simplifying the interface

What are my options for simplifying the UI in SageTV? This is for my wife, who finds it not as user friendly as TiVO.

Some options:
  • Try an STV, such as the ones listed here:

    http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...hp?do=cat&id=1

I tried Meekell's 0.6.1, but the text in the recordings list is messed up, and there don't seem to be any "simple" interfaces that are less than 3 years old. So it doesn't look like this will pan out.
  • Simplify various configuration options. For example, sort recordings by recording time instead of intelligent, and when you select a show, skip the next menu and go straight to "browse recordings."
  • Modify the standard SageTV .xml file to remove options we're not using and move around others.

Did I miss anything?

You could install "Dynamic Menus" which would allow you to remove or rename menu items in the default UI through the UI, without having to learn Studio, etc.

Have you looked at the SageMC interface? I assume if you are replacing a Tivo, you are looking for somethign a little simpler and easy to use with a remote only?

I know Plucky had made mention of something he was working on... Not sure if it ever came to fruition and became available to end users:

As cslatt suggested use dynamic menus with the default UI also make sure you enable the hidden extras and use malore menu. You can sort any way you want. You can even delete every item from the menu and start with a clean canvas.

You can already do that with the default STV. I have my recordings set to sort newest to oldest and selecting a grouped recording, I go directly to the recording list. The former is an option along the left side of the recordings screen and the latter, I thought, was an option in the menu that pops up when you access a recording list.
