Less complicated interface?

I've been trialling SageTV beta 6 for a few days via MediaMVP and 45 button remote, but I find the interface too complex, for example if i want to view a photo it takes me through so many menus and confirmations just to view it, its crazy, i am used to GBPVR where i select photo, click the thumbnail and it shows!

Same with music, to listen to a song I have to go through about 5 screens!

Also to get back to the main menu via MVP and remote seems impossible.

Is there a simpler skin or something?

use the 'play' button when you highlight a photo/song to view/listen to it instantly.

To get back to the main menu, use 'left'. Or import my multi-function stop plugin, and use the 'stop' button (Stop-FF when playing something)

thanks, but can i remap to use the 'OK' button instead of play and 'BACKUP/EXIT' instead of left? Seems more logical to me...

Use nielm's dynamic menu import to customize the default interface to your liking.

On the MVP remote, you can use the Music button to jump directly to the Music menu; the Pictures button jumps directly to the Photos menu; the Go button (little house on it) jumps to the Main Menu; Play is used as the shortcut to view/play the media; OK shows options of what you can do with a selected item; the 'i' button generally shows Info about the highlighted item; and Back/Exit should go Back to the previous menu.

You can assign buttons to your preferred commands in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Link Command. I would not reassign the OK button, or you will have no way to make any selections on your MVP.

Also, I noticed that you cannot aassign the green Power button on the MVP.

i'll be honest and say that the music/photo features, at least of SageTV5 do leave something to be desired.. (sounds like 6 is the same)..

when you look at programs like winamp (what i mainly use just for music on other machines).. its so nice just to Que songs up..

i haven't been able to figure out how to do that in SageTV yet (maybe someone can shed some light?)..

instead you have to always create custom playlists, then add the songs, then play the list..

you can't just browse your music and que it up in a temp playlist to have it play..

and this is just my personal listening style..

i'll admit, i'm fairly new to sagetv so maybe i just don't know all there is to it yet, but the above is probably the thing i dislike the most..

SageTV6 is completely different

Try the music lib in V6 -- it implements a 'Now Playing' playlist automatically for music, so you can play something, and queue others up while playing.

It also has a 'quick filter' like Winamp's music library (just type the name of the album in the album view) and for the remote-only-users who are used to sending SMS messages, the quick-search works in a similar way to predictive text input (eg 1111 matches ABBA!)

Being new to Sage I find the default stv a little unusual. The sagemc stv provides a much better interface (imho) and can be found here.

SAGEMC is much more to my liking but still a few issues;

1) My Music Files - dosent automatically play next song, and I cant find how to skip to next song

2) Pressing PLAY on a song plays the top file in My Music Files NOT the one selected

3) Font size seems a little to large

4) Cant skip to next picture in My Pictures

5) I want the 'Music' button on 45-button remote to go to My Music Files, not My Music

6) Each MVP has to be configured seperatly, should be global to all

Any help on these issues much appreciated!
