Cable v Satellite

Hi All

In my current setup I have three DVB-C cards (FloppyDTV-C) two in my Sage server and one in a test server. They are setup as network encoders via MyTheatre and work very well most of the time. Though MyTheatre can be very CPU intensive. With this set up I can access up to 7 HD channels and they play without any problems on a HD200 and HD100. (send me a PM if would like to know how this is set up)

What I would like to do is add a DVB-S/S2 card to my system with the possibility of adding Sky HD or FreeSat. Are there any users out there that are using SageTV with a DVB-S/S2 card receiving Sky HD via a CAM and a Sub Card? I’m mainly looking to see if Movies and the Sports Channels are working fine.

If the above works OK is it possible to share the CAM and Sub Card across two DVB-S/S2 cards?

Dean

Is your decsion to change anything to do with N3?

Anyway the best way to view sky HD with sage is using DVBE4sage which allows you to use as many DVB-S2 cards as you want with a single viewing card. There is a thread about this in the custom forum

I have no plans to change from Cable.

There are a few more things that worry me more that N3. Virgin’s decision to change its cable infrastructure to an IP-based TV transmission platform and the fact that you can no longer buy FloppyDTV-C card are just a few.

My main reason is to replace my two Dual DVB-T cards that have never really work well together in the same system, and add more HD channels.

DCBE4sage is something I would love to use to replace MyTheatre but is not available for DVB-C at this minute.

I mentioned DVBE4sage because you asked about Sky HD with sage. Not worried about N3? You must know more than the rest of us!

Hey guys .. interesting thread..

That said.. i have two Nfusion FTA receivers running in the house and Sagetv 6.6 simply set up as a movie / download viewing server.

i have the HD appliance and the Hauppauge wintv appliance also connected to the tv's

what I'd like to do is setup Sage to control my FTA boxes.. changing channels etc.

I have 4 x Hauppauge 150's that i can put them in the server. I'm curious if i can use these encoder cards with my FTA boxes.

Everything in the house is wired with GB.. so speed is not an issue.

Let me know if you can

Cheers
