Unhappy HD200 - "net" light is not on

I just got all the hardware and software configured for my SageTV, Sage Media Extender and USB wireless N adapter (from Sage).

The LED for "net" does not go on.

I plugged the approved adapter into a laptop and it worked flawlessly. Plugged the adapter into the Sage Extender and the extender cannot get a DHCP address and cannot access the net from a predefined address (192.168.2.9) on my brand new Belkin N router. The extender is only TWO FEET fromthe router.

Any hints?

Did you update the firmware on the HD200 Media Extender to the latest beta version?

I was going to use the USB firmware. I downloaded the STP200.bin file, but could not get the STP200.revision file to download as a file. It just displayed some numbers in my browser.

Why not just plug in a network cable in the HD200 and update the firmware from the Internet? Be sure to enter 2-3-8-2 at the firmware screen to get the beta firmware. Please read the manual for updating the firmware or the instructions included in the box with your HD200.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. I'll try it. (I did get the .rev file downloaded.)
Question: is there a way to back up the current firmware before loading the beta or is the one I already downloaded the version it shipped with?

You can always not enter the beta number at the download firmware screen and just go back to the latest production release by downloading. There is also the file reload. Look in the FAQ for the extenders for the process.

My net light never comes on when using the wireless adapter. I just assumed this is normal. (my adapter works, but there is no net light)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the network light is hard wired to the ethernet port so using a USB dongle wouldn't show the network light. With that said, my HD200's are hardwired so I can not confirm.

I got the downloaded files onto a USB stick, but when I entered the code to use it (872) the Sage unit did nothing but blink the LED indicating it saw the code. It did not ask if I wanted to use the USB for updating the firmware. The device reported it is currently loaded with 20081017-0 (pretty old).

I don't have a hard-wired connection AND a TV in the same location, so I can't connect it directly to the net. Looks like I will have to drill a hole in the wall to pass a cable through. But still looking for suggestions.

Did you download the latest beta firmware from the notification thread and then rename the files to stp200.ver and stp200.bin on your USB stick? If you don't rename the latest firmware files it's not going to work.

Thanks for checking. Yes, the files had the proper names, but I decided to drill the hole and run the cable. The firmware operated perfectly. The unit re-booted. It detected the SSID. I entered the network info (gateway, IP address, security type, password, etc). I tried both DHCP and Manual connections. I got the error message "wireless access point connection timed out" for both. My router has no setting for a connection signup time limit. My router is flashing an amber light indicating a wireless "computer" is having a problem connecting.

If you have mac filtering turned on make sure to add the mac address (on the router). That got me once.

Thanks for the tip, but I have Mac address filtering off. My wireless laptop gets connected OK, using DHCP. Still no connection for the Sage extender.

I turned off security and the Extender did get fully connected. If I turn on WPA-PSIK (personal) security it gets connected for about 2 seconds, then disconnects. I can see from the blinking light on my (Belkin N) router that it keeps trying.

I have updated the firmware to 20091007.
