Any way to create a "Rec" light like on Tivo?

One of the things I miss from my Tivo is being able to look at the front of the box and see whether or not it's recording anything. When it's time for a show to be recorded and I start to wonder whether or not I have it set right I don't have to turn on the tv and check. Furthermore, since I'm using SageMC, I don't even have a "rec" indicator on the top of the menus either - so I have to go to the guide or the recorded shows list to see whether or not it's recording.

Anyone know if there's a way to have Sage send a command when something's recording that could be 'connected' to a visible indicator of some sort? Since people have all different cases, maybe something external that could be connected to any case?

I can't think of exactly how it would work, but I guess that's why I'm here asking you guys!

I connected the HD activity light on my server and look at that. If the HD light is blinking at least once per second, the device is recording or playing back. No blinks for at least a second, no recording.

You may be able to hack something together with third party software and a piece of hardware like some people do to drive VFD status displays.

My cases have VFD displays. You can add a VFD display to an existing case.

I use LCD_Smartie and the Sage plugin, with the Sage get status plugin to have the VFD sdisplay what is recording on the sage server. In turn, I use the same setup running on the clients to display what is currently playing on the client PCs.

I do the same. I had a Crystal Fontz 16x2 serial lcd collecting dust so i paired that up with lcdsmartie and set that up

Tuner1: South Park - Ky
Tuner2:

That and the massive amount of hard drive activity give it away too.

Using the lcdsmartie approach also lets you display other info such as cpu graphs and other fun info. Worth the 30+ bucks for an lcd.

You can even mount an old black and white palm unit into the case if you are feeling sossy .
