Getting ripped DVDs with similar names to list correctly
This is driving me insane!
I'm using BMI and SageMovieWall to display my ripped DVDs. I have some ripped DVDs that the programs insist on combining the fanart and in the listing. Examples: The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951 and The Day the Earth Stood Still 2008 Get listed lumped together, all the fanart, etc. dumped into the same folder named The Day the Earth Stood Still Kill Bill: Vol.1 Kill Bill: Vol.2 Madagascar Madagascar 2 How do I solve this problem? |

Manually create the missing folder with the correct title and recreate the folders in there and copy the correct fanart into the new folder. In this example create The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951 folder and The Day the Earth Stood Still 2008 folder. Create the Backgrounds, Posters, and Banners folders and copy the correct fanart into them.

I ended up using the BMT web interface to change the title for each affected DVD, then used the SMW UI to update the fanart, then copied the fanart from the folder (incorrectly) made by BMT into the folders I manually created using the title I created in the BMT web interface. Now the movies show up separately and with the right title and fanart. But that is a really lame way of having to do it. I don't know if it's an issue with BMT & SMW or just an unfortunate byproduct of Sage's amazingly poor metadata handling scheme. I switched to SageTV from Windows Media Center so I could use a HD200 extender. Overall Sage would be perfect if they revamped their metadata handling. Windows has absolutely no problem getting it all correct with zero user intervention. |

Second remember bmt is createD by a third party user and for free. It does have issues but so does media center. The metadata from there does require user intervention unless you are using third party media browser or my movies. Those product have had time to mature and bmt is still young so not really fair to compare the too and to say media center has no problem getting It all correct without intervetion is not completely try true I have nver seen a scraper of any sort with a 100% hit rate. All that being said mymovies is coming to sagetv if you prefer it to bmt. |

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work that has been done and overall SageMC, BMT, and SMW are darn good stuff. And the folks who have donated their time, skills, and energy to making these programs should all be nominated for sainthood. In fact, I think SageTV would be out of business if it wasn't for the user-generated improvements that bring the whole package to the next level.
A big thanks to all involved! |
