DVD playback VOB or ISO?

Advantages / Disadvantages?

Will converting all the VOB movies into ISO format speed up the indexing (I have 400 DVD's online) on a 12TB ReadyNAS (Raid 5 so it's 10TB online) and save on Java Heap usage?

folder structures work in more things. And no I don't think it will speed up refreshing. I've got 500+ DVDs and BDs on my ReadyNAS (well some on my RAID-5 in the server too) and haven't noticed any issues.

You seeing anything in particular?

Just wanting to speed up the refresh process. I will have a ton of music and I know there are limits around the number of files it can handle so I thought if I could thin each DVD down to 1 file vs. 10-20 then I would shave off approx 400-800 files.

Will the HD200 read DVD ISO files natively, I didn't think SageTV would do that?

I believe so, SageTV software does to have the capability to mount/play ISOs on a PC though.

The HD200 plays DVD ISOs just fine. (I haven't checked BR ISOs though...)

I personally prefer ISOs over VOBs, just because TV shows span a number of DVDs, and I find it easier for me to organize them when they're ISOs instead of folders. (Again that's just me though).

I haven't noticed any problems with TV shows and folders-structure rips.

INTERESTING. OK this is big, if this supports ISO's natively it's basically the silver bullet to my media playing needs! I'll play around with it and see what I can get to work.
