ABC2 pixelation anyone?

Folks,

How are you faring with your ABC2 recordings / live tv?

Since last week I have pixelation on some shows for no apparent reason; certainly no config or setup changes my end. Presumably ABC2 itself isn't transmitting pixelated shows and this is a Sage-transcoder type issue?

I noticed previously that a change of channels to ABC2 resulted in the transcoder kicking-in although that resolved itself without any changes to my config.

Also I'd struggled with ABC HDTV dropouts that were pleasingly resolved courtesy of an updated Sage native recording patch.

I'm using two HDHR units (i.e. 4 tuners).

Any ideas welcome...

Have you considered reception problems?

I had all manner of issues with my initial Sage setup because of poor reception. I was getting intermittent pixelation/blocking but only on certain transponders. The problem varied with weather conditions, but mist/fog seemed to be the worst.

After a *lot* of debugging it boiled down to the signal strength being too weak. I installed a mast-head amp and everything works great now

With regard to your issue, I wonder if something physical has changed, aerial moved in the wind, weather gotten into connectors, etc.

I'm using Sage under linux so I'm not familiar with the tools for debugging available under windows, but I'd be looking for a way to report signal strength and signal to noise ratios for each of the transponders.

Also see if there is a correlation between issues and changes in signal strength/noise.

Dylan

Hi there

Yes, I spent most of last year playing with splitters, boosters etc and will try something at the weekend as currently it's just the HDHR boxes without amplification.

Thanks for the suggestion
