Wrong HDHomeRun channel mappings?

I Just received my HDHomeRun and this is my first time setting it up with Sage. I downloaded installed the latest drivers from the website. The setup program updated the firmware on the HDHR devices and then I followed the prompts and selected my software as SageTV, and then did a scan.

All of the scanned channels looked good when previewed - just the local broadcast channels appeared as expected. So I fired up the sage setup , added the new tuners, and made a new lineup for the HDHR's. I then performed a full scan.

All looked OK until I watched the channels AS Sage tuned them. They appeared to be SD (4x3, very grainy). I switched back to the HDHR util and previewed and they are the full HD 16x9 picture.

I also noticed the physical channel Sage displayed for the mapping didnt match the XX-YY-ZZ that the HDHR util displayed, so I tried to remap and change it to match. This did not work.

I am not sure what is going on here. It almost appears that sage is picking up the wrong subchannel/stream and is displaying the SD version instead of the HD version.

Any pointers?

Ah OK... thanks, I think I pretty much followed procedure without looking at the guid, but never did the scan for the second tuner.

yea you gotta scan each and every tuner as if it were the first one. you can select to use the same guide but you HAVE to scan each tuner for channels. in fact if you have problems in the future with the occasional random channel going nutty the best thing I've found to do is dump all the "sources" and re-do them. also check your SageTV folder; for each tuner you should have 2 files that say "Silicondust HD HomeRun Tuner..." followed by .frq and .scn. if you don't have those files things won't work right. and if you find things aren't working right, delete the sources, move/delete those files and start from scratch with that instructional guide.

What is your source? Are you getting OTA using an antenna or QAM over your FIOS?

QAM over FIOS. Just wanted to pull the locals in full quality instead of HD-PVR re-encodes. I'd say almost half of our recordings are are major network broadcasts, so it should also free up some tuners for the placeshifter license I just purchased

I *think* it's working now. Its a bit hard to tell right now. There is a bunch of garbage SD stuff on daytime.

The step that I think most people miss when setting up QAM is populating the Guide Number column in the HDHomeRun Setup with the appropriate channel numbers. What this does is allows SageTV to associate each physical channel, e.g. 1008-69-25, with the virtual channel number that shows in the line-up, e.g. 712. In this case 712 would go in the Guide Number column. When SageTV does a scan it will see channel 712 and point it to physical channel 1008-69-25.

All of the numbers were already mostly correct from the information pulled from Zap2It. Some of the callsigns varied, so I changed them to match those already in my main lineup.

The only problem sage had when mapping was that 2 channels had a decimal in the number in the "Guide Number" column in the HDHR util. These 2 didnt get mapped to the correct virtual number in sage. I suppose I could have changed them manually in the HDHR util as you mentioned, but but it was easy enough to remap in sage. These 2 also did not exhibit the problems I mentioned in the first post, so I don't think that was an issue. If I see any more problems though, that will be the next thing I change..

I'm not sure why the physical number reported by sage and the physical number from HDHR util don't match, but it didnt seem to relate to whether or not the channel tuned properly.

Yea, I don't know how the HDHomeRun driver translates the channel number for SageTV. My previous example should actually be 69-1008-712 on channel 712. The actual QAM channel is 69-25.
