Channel Mappings - I just don't get it!
I am getting ssoooo frustrated getting my tuners setup....
I have an HDHR and a HVR1600. So first I setup the HDHR(Tuner 0) using QAM (Time warner cable rebuild digital lineup - Cleveland Heights, extended ) and everything was fine (well except for no music channels. but that's ok) Example channels are: 3, 3-1, 5, 5-1, etc. Then I started to add the 1600 cable analog using Time warner cable - Cleveland Heights, Basic). I scanned the channels and the list had both analog and digital channels in the list! The digital channels were static. This is when I started to get really confused. So I disabled the digital channels because I don't want Sage trying to record those static channels. Example channels are: 3, 3-1(Disabled this one), 5, 5-1(Disabled this one), etc. So now I expect to be able to record channels 3 and 5 at the same time. But nope it would only let me record from one. This is so confusing |

I don;t know if we have enough info here to solve this, but if I understand correctly, your current setup should allow you to record three digital channels simultaneously, or two digital one analog. The 1600 can do both analog and QAM (or ATSC with an antenna) but only one or the other at a time. The HDHR can only do unencrypted digital, but it can do two at a time. So best case scenario, at one time, your HDHR could record two digital channels, and your 1600 could be recording one analog OR one digital, but not both.
I think the root of the problem is that you only have one tuner capable of recording analog at any given time. If your HDHR is reporting that it can tune channel 3 as well as 3-1, that is a problem, as HDHRs can't tune analog period. In my learning curve with sage, I ended up determining that it was best to have two of everything. Signature notwithstanding, I have a 2250 which has one coaxial cable connected, but can record any combo of two QAM or analog channels. I also have a PVR-500 for two more analog cable tuners. Finally, I have a two tuner HDHR in charge of OTA, which is beneficial to me because I live between Dayton and Cincy and can get Dayton HD with an antenna, useful as a backup, plus Dayton broadcasts some things in surround that Cincy doesnt. Also have two r5000 Dish tuners, another story entirely.

When I help set up my brother, who has Time Warner in NC only the 3-1, 5-1 channels would have been digital. The 3, 5 would have been analog and you would not be able to tune them with the HDHR. I the channel setup go into one of the HDHR tuners and try to preview a 3, 5 station. I would be surprised if it worked.
I expect that when you disabled the 3-1, 5-1 stations you really disabled the HDHR. Try the reverse and see if that fixes your problem. What I do is leave them both and pick a particular channel when I create a favorite. That way you have more control over what tuner and SD\HD formats you want to use for recordings. I would set the merit setting higher for the HDHR tuners so that it is always used first as well. YOu want to leave the 1600 available as much as possible since it is you only analog tuner. |

Ok, sorry guys. I think I've got it straight now....
QAM does all digital only, but that doesn't mean only HD... (It also sends SD channels.) So I need to map the SD QAM channels to my analog cable channels. HDHR (Tuner0): I am mapping WKYCDT(QAM CH104 - 3) to logical channel 5-1. And I am mapping WKYC(QAM CH84 - 3) to logical channel 5. And I am mapping WHOI(QAM CH84 - 4) to logical channel 8. HVR1600 (Analog input): I am mapping WKYC(Analog cable 19) to logical channel 5. I am mapping WKYC(Analog cable 5) to logical channel 8. So I should be able to record both logical channels 5 and 8 at the same time. I hope this works.... Update: I scanned my analog cable channels first. I used my normal Time Warner Cable - Cleveland Heights (Basic). Next I scanned my digial ATSC antenna channels. Then I remapped my QAM channels using the HDHR software to use the same channel numbers as the two above. This worked perfectly. Last edited by chrishallowell; 02-16-2009 at 07:42 AM. |
