Storage Management Strategies?

I have something less than a dozen OTA shows scheduled for recording. I watch maybe 4 of them max... the others being for my Better Half in case she misses a soap or something.

Right now, I'm just checking storage every so often and cleaning house when things get tight.

Does anybody have a workable strategy for minimizing the amount of checking? I see something about an option to delete a recording only if space is needed - which suggests a larger set of features around automating space management.

My ideal would be to designate some shows as "never delete" and others as "delete the oldest copy of this show when space is needed by a new copy of this show".

Get more space?

Sage only deletes favorites when space is needed by default, and if you have IR enabled, only deletes anything when space is needed.

Turn off auto delete for that favorite.

That's close to the default behavior, but it's not limited to per show. There's a whole section in the manual about delete order and all that.

I'm starting to wish I'd gotten the 20-bay Norco case (http://tinyurl.com/dcnrxp) instead of the CoolerMaster tower that I did.

Reason: When WSH takes a drive out of the pool, it takes a loooooong time during which the server is down. 20 bays would let me use more/smaller drives and make the removal of any single drive less heinous.

Thanks for the pointer to the manual. RTFM and all that.... I'll start reading it now.
