havafun channel changer setup guide with SageTV?

Hi folks,

I'm trying to find some information or a guide to configure the havafun channel changer by elfman (http://sourceforge.net/projects/havafun/) but was unable to find any information about the integrating this with SageTV. I've downloaded the software and am able to change channels from command line.

I've tried looking for instructions both here and myhava.com with no success. Would anyone be able to point me to the directions or post them to this post?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I did. However this thread does not directly discuss the configuration of havafun (hava_channel.exe) from scratch. I believe that it needs to be configured using exemultiplugin registry keys.

It'll be great if someone had worked out the installation steps and could post them here, or perhaps at the havafun wiki.

Any pointers, or high level steps would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tariq

You mean this?

By using the exetuner plugin and the help of 'elfman' over on the HAVA forums who suggested the use of openRTSP (and then compiled it for me using cygwin...) we have the basis for our exe!

To use it, you need to have an RTSP compatible firmware for the HAVA, which right now is set at 152.105-32 and then simply setup the exeplugin as normal and set your registry to the following:

"HAVAChannelChanger.exe xx.xx.xx.xx %CHANNEL%"

Where XX.XX.XX.XX = your internal IP address for the HAVA.

The EXETunerPlugin uses a template string (REG_SZ) stored in the registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sage\EXETunerPlugin\command

Here it is...

:-)

1. Download the exetuner plugin...

http://www.sage.tv/2_papers/EXETunerPlugin.zip

2. Download the havafun changer...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hava...n.zip/download

3. Extract the file EXETunerPlugin.dll to the ..\Common folder on your computer. Make sure that you use the appropriate folder if you are using a 64bit Windows OS...

4. Create the reg key that will tune your channel... I have attached the reg key from my system... Here is the command:
hava_channel_nowin.exe 192.168.1.70 1 C0858 nobind Select w1 %CHANNEL%

In this case, I am calling the havafun executable (no_win version...). The IP needs to be for your specific HAVA network address and then the appropriate input on the HAVA (1=composite). The next variable is the command set that you used in the HAVA... 'Nobind' refers to not waiting for a reply from the HAVA. As I use UVerse, my STB goes to sleep and I have to hit 'Select' to wake it up... 'W1' waits 1 second and of course the '%Channel%' sends the selected channel.

5. Extract the Havafun executable to your PATH (most probably, the Sage folder...). I would test it from the command line to ensure that your PATH is OK and also that your variables are set...

6. Setup Sage to use the exetuner plugin as the channel changer for your HAVA device...

That's really all there is to it... I am amazed that the HAVA has not generated more excitement as a standalone tuner... While the HDPVR will output true HD and the HAVA will only output SD, the functionality is truly remarkable and considering the cost (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UJE1O2/...SIN=B000UJE1O2) is downright cheap.

If you do not need HD input, then I would go for the Titanium, since you can use an external drive attached to the actual HAVA to store the recordings! (http://myhava.com/productsale.html). Refurbished units are $75.

Clarifications on using havafun and EXEtunerPlugin

A couple of things to help others:
1) Do not follow the readme.txt with EXETunerPlugin
2) Copy EXETunerPlugin to:
The SageTV common directory not the Program Files Common Directory
The current default is c:\Program Files\SageTV\Common
3) Create a registry key
H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Sage\EXETunerPlugin
4) in this key create a string value named:
command
with a string values of:
{Full path listing of hava command]} \hava_channel_nowin.exe {hava ip address} {hava input type} {control type} [nobind] %CHANNEL%

example: Directv H20 component output:
"c:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\hava_channel_nowin.exe 192.168.1.121 Component S1377 nobind %CHANNEL%"

Thanks again for your response. I've download both exetuner and Havafun and can change the channels on the hava device using the command line.

However, seems like even after using Sage for over a couple of year, I'm still a newbie. Can you elaborate on the step 6 "Setup Sage to use the exetuner plugin as the channel changer for your HAVA device..." ?

How do I do this.

Thanks again for your help

To close this out, I was able to configure the 'EXE Tuner' by editing the properties for the video source.

Thanks again for the help. This is working great now!

Steve or any of you guys still here...

I've been trying to get something to work with hava for about a year. I never came this close. Tried MediaPortal, Sage, BTV, etc. Finding this thread I was able to take the havachannel program and from command prompt change the hava channels including the problematic higher channel numbers which I could never change. I am thrilled.

I have edited my registry but being in windows 7 64bit I may not have put the entry in the right place. I can now find EXEtuner as an option in Sage, but it doesn't change my channels and the options in the properties in source details are mostly whited out.

I think I am so close to finally getting this to work but I need a hand if someone here can help. I'm running version 7 Sage. Right now I have no channels changing bur before I tried this I could use the ordinary sage setup and get functional channels on 1 thru about 30 or so.. then my cable STB jumps up to 150 and from 150 up thru 9999 no channels will change and this is where all the good stuff is.

Using the hava_channel program I can from command change to any channel I want, so I know this stuff works. I just can't get the sage part completed.

Thanks for any help I'm offered in advance!

Bill

P.S.
Here is where I have the registry key based on trial and error and so far been all errors:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Wow6432Node\Sage]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Wow6432Node\Sage\EXETunerPlugin]
"command"="c:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\hava_channel_nowin.exe 192.168.1.104 Component C1376 nobind %CHANNEL%"

Is this the right key location? In 32 bit win wouldn't this go in HKLM Software? And in my acutal 64bit windows7, would it go in the example in my key shown in the prior message above?

Thanks!

Looks like win7 havafun issues are being discussed there.
