Dimming the LEDs on the front panel

I was wondering if it's possible to dim the LEDs on the front panel of the HD200 MP? They're significantly brighter than any other video component we have and it really becomes annoying in a darkened room. Especially, the green network LED which always flickers (confirming network traffic) even with the unit is turned off.

My 2 cent work around is a thin strip of black electrical tape, but I'd like to be able to adjust the brightness level like my TiVo could.

Best regards,

Todd

It is my understanding the LEDs are not controllable. Tape it is.

Best way to do the dimming: Make different sized holes in the tape.

But as BC stated, nope nothing you can do within the software. I've got all of mine covered with tape.

I dotted mine w/ a "Sharpie" until they were dim enough.

Although you might be able to open the box and add a current limiting resistor to the signal line leading to the LED, but it's much easier just to use tape to dim the LED.
You don't void the warranty or have to cut traces on the circuit board.

Careful with this one... I overdid it... now I have to turn off the room lights to see it at all.

I did the first time as well... few swipes with my thumb and most of it came off Seems Sharpie doesn't stick well to mine. That's why it took me a few minutes 'dotting' it to dim them sufficiently.

I cut strips of anti-static bag plastic that most computer parts come in and taped that on. That way I get to see the lights, but they are much dimmer.

I opened the box and taped a little window tint over the LED area. I used 2 layers over the green LED and 1 over the red.

I just keep all components completely hidden except the TV and speakers.. neither of which have lights (well, the tv does, but it has an option to turn it off).

HD200 LED's way too bright!

Is there any way to turn off the network activity light when the extender is turned off? It's WAY too bright, it lights up my entire bedroom at night

I don't understand why these LEDs are so bright, it's way too distracting. I'm thinking about just covering them with electrical tape, but that would be last resort since I do like some feedback when I turn it on.

I highly recommend dimming the LEDs from the inside of the case. It is super-easy to open the case (only two screws, cool design). I taped a little piece of mylar from one of those space-blankets on the inside of the case. The silver mylar is transparent like a one-way mirror. A single thickness gives you good dimming but still visible. stack two pieces of mylar together any you can only see the LEDs if you really look for them.

You can pick up a mylar blanket from Wal-mart or Target in for a couple of bucks. They are in the camping section. You could also use a little piece from a mylar balloon.

Mylar might be electrically conductive (I have no idea). Don't leave any stray material hanging out where it could short something out.

Or you could do the same thing with the anti-static bag that the HD200 comes in, or at least I think it comes in. I have so many of those bags around that I can't remember anymore.
