Image format problem: 4:3 VS 16:9

Greetings,

I have a strange problem when viewing HD channels in SageTV.

Step 1: when I tune into a HD channel, I get this:



This isn't right: the picture should be 16:9. The black borders should not be there. Note: the image is cropped, not "compressed".

Step 2: If I open the menu, I get this:



Suddenly, the missing parts of the picture appear.

Step 3: If I close the menu, I get this:



The picture is normal.

My question is: how do I fix this? I want to get the correct result without having to open then close the menu each time I tune into a channel.

My config:
- SageTV 6.6.2.218
- Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM
- GeForce 9400 IGP with Forceware 191.07 (latest)
- 16:9 Sony HDTV connected via HDMI
- SageTV display format is configured as 16:9
- I watch French HD channels which are broadcast in 1440x1080 anamorphic widescreen (this may be important here)
- I use qian's patch (but that's probably unrelated)
- I have this problem since the very beginning, it didn't appear suddenly.

My config:
- SageTV 6.6.2.218
- Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
- GeForce 8800 GTX with Forceware 191.07 (latest, prior drivers had same issue)
- 16:9 HDTV connected via HDMI
- SageTV display format is configured as 16:9
- Non HD Shows
- I also have this problem since the very beginning on this PC using 6.6.2.218
