ATI 4650 & Dual Core Pentium - Any Optimization Suggestions?

Trying to get a 4650 to run on a 3.4GHz Pentium D system, in an x16 1.0 slot. Can't get decent playback of HD-PVR or 1080i stuff like CSI, or I can randomly get some tradeoff where a 1080i looks awesome but a HD-PVR looks terrible and tiles and breaks up.

Any combos that work on 32-bit XP? Tried all four renderrer choices (for some reason EVR suddenly appeared on my client), decoders, acceleration, you name it.

Any thouhgts are appreciated.

thanks.

.
You will need to list out all four of your decoder options. You need to make sure at least one of those decoders support DXVA (aka hardware assisst).

A couple of Intervideo ones - one non-CSS and a regular WinDVD 7 one, ATI, and Sage's and then "default" whatever that one would end up being. Actually one other Hauppauge one as well - I used to have a 350 series card in the computer but took it out.

Sage's is supposed to access the DXVA correct? I have tried that and it makes it even worse.

I'm wondering if I'm better swapping MB's to an PCI Express x16 2.0 board. Is my card kind of choking?

Did you try the Arcsoft TME software that came with the HD-PVR. How does it look in the TME Player?

I would really stick with getting Overlay to work on XP first before trying anything else.

WinDVD 7 is quite old and would not support the latest DXVA enhancements.
The SageTV Decoder is 100% software only and does not support ANY kind of hardware acceleration whatsoever. I would suggest you look at the latest WinDVD 9 / PowerDVD 9 decoders, or as suggested below the Arcsoft decoder that came with your HD-PVR.

The SageTV decoder is NOT software only and DOES support DXVA. Just choose it as a decoder and that option will show. It just supports MPEG2 for hardware acceleration. PowerDVD 8 or ( or TMT 2 or 3 will hardware accelerate for h.264.

Not sure if your having the same issue that I did, could be related.

Also to add to this I've added the 512M version of this card to my daugthers x64 Vista system and have acceleration working with EVR. Used the same approach.

Ended up also getting Cyberlink H.264. That solved CPU issues and I did not have to try and "unhilde" anything.

Thanks again.
