Programmatic detection of HD-PVR going fubar?

After repeatedly getting caught unawares by my HD-PVR disappearing as a source or getting into a state where "PlaybackException" errors are being emitted, I'm thinking of writing a windows service to run on my Sage WHS machine to send me an email or text message when things go south, in the hopes I can correct them before missing recordings.

Any suggestions on what to look for programmatically to determine if the HD-PVR has disappeared from Sage's perspective?

I fyou run the latest version of SageTV then it already generates system messages when a tuner has issues. And there is a plugin that can email or tweet to let you know.

Are you not receiving system alert messages from within Sage for this particular issue? The reason I mention this is because SageAlert probably already does what you're looking for.

Agree with above. System Messages are generated when there is an HD-PVR issue. SageAlert monitors the system messages and sends an email to my SMS gateway. Within 30 seconds of an HD-PVR problem I get a text message on my phone.

See my posts on the SageAlert thread mentionned above.
I have SageAlert trigger bat files which automagically reset my HDPVRs.

Awesome, I did not know about Sage Alert, thanks for the tip. Should've known better than to think I was the first to think of this!

How are you resetting your HDPVR's via batch? I have to hit the power button to reset it.

Read my post on SageAlert thread: All details explained there. I have a web remote controlled power supply, link to exact model in the thread.
