SageTV Service hangs "starting"
My SageTV Service is hung in the "starting" state. I cannot kill the service from the Task Manager window. After rebooting the service is still hung "starting". Obviously this has also killed SageTV, which also hangs when I try to start it. Any ideas what may have caused this and how to fix it?

I suspect a corrupted properties file. Try renaming the properties file and the backup copy. This will force Sage to create a new properties file. If it works then you know the cause and can try the original backup copy.

Thanks carlgar. I decided to uninstall & reinstall SageTV. Certainly a PITA, but it worked.

I would always copy off the current wiz.bin and properties files along with their last backups whenever something like that happens.
I have actually had to rename the Sage directly and reboot before because it would not release the wiz.bin file once it hung. Just replacing it with the wiz.bak has always worked for me. |

SWKerr,
OK, I finally figured out what you were saying, and it worked! Just to clarify for others: If your SageTVService hangs while "starting", do the following: 1. Navigate to the SageTV/SageTV folder 2. Rename SageTVService.exe to SageTVService.exe.old 3. Reboot your computer 4. Navigate to the SageTV/SageTV folder 5. Rename win.biz to win.biz.old 6. Rename win.bak to win.biz 7. Rename SageTVService.exe.old to SageTVService.exe 8. Start SageTV as you normally would 9. This should fix the hung service problem. Thanks SWKerr!!!
