SageTV "record as service" is always recording...
I just tried out SageTV a few days ago. I installed and set it to "record as a service" so that it could record even if SageTV itself is not loaded up. (So that the Sage Record process is a behind the scenes process, independent of the GUI front end, but does show up on the Task List.) However, I am seeing that it is ALWAYS recording, even when I turn off SageTV. It basically keeps recording whatever the last channel was (that meaning, if you had liveTV on, it will keep recording that channel. If you were set to record a show on a different channel in the middle of the night, it will correctly record that show, but then continue to record every show following it on that channel, until user intervention.)
Is this a bug? Is there a fix? I was reading up and read that putting SageTV into sleep mode, hitting File->Close, or LiveTV->Stop should stop this autorecording. However, it seems since I use the "record as a service" option, that guy is always recording and never stops. I suppose I could try to turn off the "record as service" feature for now & try again. Does this involve uninstall/reinstall? However, I do think "record as service" is a cool feature, and would be even cooler if it worked properly (and didnt record 24-7). Any word on this issue? Anyone else seeing similar results? Anyone else seeing different results when using "record as service"? Thanks, Rob rmellor@vt.edu |

I have been using the service mode without a problem for quite some time. Last night however I had the same issue where it wouldn't stop recording no matter what. I simply closed Sage, stopped the service and restarted it and then it was fine again. Hopefully it will go away for you as well.

Sounds like you were watching LiveTV. Did you close the file before exiting Sage? Not just hit stop watching but right click select close file. Don't really know if you should have to cuz' I haven't experienced the problem, but don't watch much live, primarily already recorded. (I do use Sage on the Server in service mode)

I couldn't even get it to cancel the recording by selecting something else to record. It was stuck on one channel and recording everything on that channel. I personally tried everything. Maybe the OP was having a different prob than I was but it was definitley a bug on my end. Even my encoder merit wasn't working properly while it was going on. Oh and I never watch Live TV.

Yes, I tried File->Close, putting Sage to sleep, etc, even exiting SageTV entirely. But the "SageTV service process" kept running in the background, I could go to the recordings dir & hit refresh & watch the files (recordings) grow every second.
I did see that you can enable/disable the "service" from the Start Menu (TVServiceControl.exe). I turned off the service, and it seemed to work fine, and stopped recording. I guess my test would be to now schedule another recording without the service running, and with SageTV in sleep mode, to see if it works correctly and tapes only the show I want it to tape. Another test I could run would be to put SageTV back into Service Mode, and schedule it to record a show in the middle of the night, and see if it works correctly, or if it then just keeps recording shows on that same channel throughout the rest of the night until user intervention.. (To see if my problem is repeatable) I tend to not watch too much LiveTV, and I find myself watching prerecording shows, hitting file->Close, or putting SageTV to sleep often, all of which should stop SageTV from recording (and i'd assume SageTV "as a service" from recording) but I was not seeing that behavior yesterday as it kept recording 24-7. |
