Covert Cable TV coax splitter issue
After years of creating trouble tickets and hosting untrained Time Warner cable-TV guys - because of weak signals at the ingress to my condo... I finally succeeded in getting a supervisor to take pity.
My coax runs through the attic of 3 adjacent town-house single story condos to reach the Time Warner demarcation point (where the signal is great). Time Warner, the monopoly, always took the firm position that they were not responsible for why the signal is 15dB weaker on my end of the cable. Paradox for me, as I can't physically crawl in the attics (low trusses) of all these, and there's the legal/liability issues of doing so. So finally, after years, Time Warner's supervisor to a risk and violated "policy". The tech went into a neighbor's attic. Found my coax there had a four-way splitter that was 20 years old. One tap for my home, one for the neighbor's MBR. Probably unintentional. Anway, now it's 15dB better. Cable modem has become reliable. Less snow in analog TV. Very frustrating. |
