Recordings starting late

I have a slight problem. I'm using version 6.4.8.184. I have my clock synchronizing every 15 minutes. The problem I'm having is all my recordings have padding of 1 minute before and after. When I look at my recording schedule, everything looks fine. No tuner has two recordings going back to back. But when one show finishes late as it should, somehow the system decides to tape a show that is already in progress resulting in me missing the first 3-5 minutes of a show. This is having a negative impact on WAF Anyone have an idea why this would happen?

It might very well be your clock time, not the padding. I've had a similar problem and posted a few weeks ago.

I was also using an atomic clock sync, but my recordings were 2 minutes late, then 3, then 4 minutes late.

I finally dumped the clock synch and manually adjusted my clock back 4 minutes.

I cannot remember which clock synch I was using, but it was one recommended here. I am also recording DishTV and Network TV via clear QAM. At first I thought the problem was only related to my Dish shows, but later realized it also affected my network shows - hence the realization that the problem really was on my end.

I tried using padding, but so often my Dish shows are recorded back to back and therefore no padding was actually occuring.

If you have a line towards the end of your time line on the recording and green after the line, then you are really padding. If there is no white line, the you really are not padding and you clock time is simply messed up.

It's actually not a clock problem cause I caught my system in the act last night. So you think you can dance stopped taping at 10:01 pm as it should. Then Criminal Minds which was originally supposed to start taping at 11:00 pm got rescheduled and began taping at around 10:07 pm. The system realized the So you think you can dance tuner was free so shuffled Criminal Minds in but the show had already started! I had to manually record it at 11:00 pm to get the beginning.

The only way I found around this is to set all instances of my favorites as disliked except for the shows that are scheduled to be taped. That works but a very annoying process.

I ran into this problem once upon a time. Sage will start recording a show up to 5 minutes after the initial start time. This has the not so nice effect that if it can use the same tuner to hit that 5 minute window than it will do so, causing a late start in show #2.

The fix (workaround) is to set both the start and end padding for your favorites at 3 minutes. This creates a 6 minute overlap, and thus the 5 minute "Hey I can still record this show using the same tuner" problem goes away.

That's great, if that's what's happening and there's a concrete 5 minute threshold then I can live with changing my padding to 3 minutes. Even though that's going to take one heck of a long time!

I just hope the 5 minutes is from when the recording is scheduled to start including padding and not from when the network is supposed to start the airing.
