re-importing archived/recorded shows

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded to 6.6 from 5.x, however, when I did so I completely nuked my old version of Sage. So now I have to somehow re-import my older recordings as well as xml and meta data from each of those files. How can I do this?

When I place my recorded files in the recording directory, Sage 6 has placed these files in the imported video menu and not in the recording/archive menu.

How does Sage determine if a file is an 'import' vs 'something that it recorded previously'. I'm assuming that the difference is if Sage has that show in its recorded database...

If you have a backup of your old installation, retrieve Wiz.bin (the SageTV database file) from that backup and drop it into your new installation (while Sage is not running, of course). More details in the FAQ.

If you didn't make a backup before nuking, well, now you know better. Best you can do at this point is type in the program descriptions manually using the web server add-on (or something similar), or else live with them in the Imports section.

I still have my xml files which seems to be all of the data with regards to the recording. Is there any way in which I can import this into the wiz.bin?

Where did these XML files come from? If they were generated by Nielm's XML file generator, then his web server plugin can import them. If they came from somewhere else, you may need some other tool to import them.

Related question: to save disk space on my recording drive, I sometimes offload larger recorded files, watched material that I want to save for possible re-watching "someday," etc., to an external disk. Before doing so, I mark the recordings as archived in Sage, then copy to the external drive & delete from my recording drive. If I later decide to copy it back to my recording drive, will Sage remember that it was there once and recognize it as a recording, or will it consider it an imported video?

My computer can only handle one internal hard drive, and it's about half full (1T) at the moment. I try to keep things watched/converted to smaller files/archived to external storage, and it would be nice if I could copy things back out of the archives when desired and have them fully recognized.

They came from SageTV 5.x. I probably had Nielm's XML file generator installed at that time. I tried the webserver to see if I could import them in there but was unsuccessful yesterday evening. I'll try again tonight and see what my error message was. Is there any bulk method of importing a few hundred XMLs?
