Can an Xbox360 play HD-PVR .ts files recorded in Sage
I thought that an Xbox360 is supposed to be able to play H.264 files but it looks like the Video Library in my Xbox360 is not recognizing these files as video files - the same with .mkv files.
Is there something special that you have to do to make the Xbox360 recognize these files?

I share my TV and Movies Library on the Windows7 Version of Media Center. I can play HD-PVR files without problems from the Xbox360. Media Center does not support MKV files but you can probably convert them to mp4 or m2ts files which will both play back on the Xbox360.
I have considered using m2ts as my standard container for movies since it is supported in both Sage and Media Center. I have yet to find a negative to using m2ts. Not sure if they will play locally on Xbox360 as I always launch Media Center when I do it. (which is rare as Sage is better and I have a HTPC on the same TV) At some point h.264 was to supported in MCE but I don't recall what platform or updated added this functionality. (XP and Vista may not work I just don't recall) Last edited by SWKerr; 09-12-2009 at 06:47 AM. |

@SWKerr - do you do this via the Media Center Extender on the Xbox or through the Video Library? By playing locally do you mean through Video Library on My Xbox rather than in Media Center Extender mode?
It seems to some times in Extender mode but at other times it gives me an error. Skipping forward doesn't seem to work at all.

the newer hd-pvr drivers support the xbox360 using mp4.
also I can playback mp4 hdpvr recording, using videolan with no studdering. i get lots of studdering if recorded in TS format and played using videolan. http://www.hauppauge.com/site/suppor...tml#recordings HD PVR encodes in real time directly to the hard disk in an H.264 format with AAC or AC-3 audio. There are three formats which you can choose when recording a video: * .TS which is a generic 'transport stream' * .M2TS which is compatible with the Sony Playstation3 * .MP4 which is compatible with the XBox360 |
