SageTV + Hauppauge HDPVR = grey and black bars

Hi all,

I'm feeding a 1080i signal into my Hauppauge HDPVR box and then feeding this to SageTV. I'm able to see all of my SD and HD fine, however I'm seeing grey bars on the left and right hand sides and even black bars at the top and bottom. I would have expected bars if I was displaying SD but with HD channels I would expect to see no bars at all (or perhaps only small ones at the top and bottom)

Is there a setting that I'm missing within SageTV, graphic driver settings, or even with the Hauppauge itself?

I remember reading somewhere that SageTV looks at how the Display Properties > settings was configured to try and figure out what type of TV/screen on is running SageTV on. My display is a 54" Panasonic plasma however for my desktop I've been running it at 1280x720; should I set my display settings to 1920x1080?

The next question has to do with the grey bars; is there anyway for me to make them black instead? the grey ones look a bit annoying.

Many thanks ahead of time.

Belg

After playing around with a few display settings it appears that SageTV does in fact change the appearance of what it displays based on the resolution of your display setting. When I set my display to 1920x1080 and then watch 16:9 content I barely see any bars at all, when I watch SD at this res I'll get grey bars on the left and right. When I watch SD at 1280x720 I see no bars and when I watch 16:9 content I'll see both black bars on the top/bottom and grey bars on the left/right.

Therefore, if I want to switch between SD and HD video I guess I'm supposed to keep switching my graphic settings... this is painful

Is there any way for me to set this within SageTV natively (right clicking and playing with aspect ratios doesn't work)

I tried using auto aspect changer, this doesn't seem to help either.

Any ideas anyone? Do I need to switch my screen res each time I flip between 4x3 and 16x9 content?

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone sees the same grey bars as I am when viewing SD or HD content. Is there anyway in which I can turn these grey bars into black? I find the grey bars too distracting...
